- Breast cancer is the second cause of cancer deaths among black women.
- Breast cancer incidence among younger African American women (under age 40) is higher than in white women.
- Aggressive tumor characteristics are more common in African American women than in white women.
- 77% of African American women in the U.S. survive five years after diagnosis as compared to 90% of white women.
- Death rates for breast cancer have decreased faster among white women than among African American women.

It's the length of 1,689,600 standard kitchen sinks, 42,915,840 paper clips, or 67,584,000 pennies lined up, but this month, 800 miles will be a much more significant measurement for Steve Gould.
The American Airlines flight attendant, an AA employee for 24 years, is cycling from Fort Worth, Texas, to Denver in a ride he dubs "The Cowtown to Colorado 800." The trip is dedicated to his mom, Betsy, who is battling breast cancer for the second time.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer Already Making Gains In First Year Of FundingThe University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® lauded thousands of American Airlines AAdvantage® members, employees, and Celebrity Golf and Tennis supporters for helping American meet its promise to fund the fight against a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. American's annual Celebrity Golf and Tennis event, plus its Miles for the Cure™ program are funding a unique Komen for the Cure Promise Grant at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for new treatments for inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). The airline has pledged $8 million over eight years to fund a $7.5 million Promise Grant at M. D. Anderson's Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Clinic, the only clinic of its kind devoted to IBC. Learn More. |
