Check-In Locations and Information
U.S. Gateways International Airports
  • Tokyo - Check in at the Japan Airlines ticket counter in Terminal 2. View of Tokyo Narita Airport, then click on "terminal guide".
  • Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Kuala Lumpur, Pusan, Seoul, Singapore and Taipei - Check in at the Japan Airlines ticket counter. American Airlines signage will be displayed at Japan Airlines check-in counters.


 

International Documents and Taxes

Only a valid passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to Japan. For additional information or requirements for other citizenships or destinations, check with local consulate.

Departure Taxes
Passenger Service Facility Charge (PSFC) is levied on passengers of 12 years and older departing on international flights from:
  • Fukuoka Airport: the PSFC is included in the ticket price and is not collected separately.
  • Kansai Airport: JPY 2,650 / 1,330 for children from 2 to 11 years old is included in the ticket price and is not collected separately.
  • Narita Airport: the PSFC is included in the ticket price and is not collected separately.


 

Connections and Airport Transfers
Passengers arriving from the United States and transferring at Tokyo/Narita to a Japan Airlines' operated domestic flight, will first clear Immigration, collect all checked baggage, and then proceed to Customs at their first point of entry into Japan. After clearing Customs, each passenger is required to collect all baggage and proceed to the Japan Airlines domestic check-in counter and then check in for the domestic flight. Boarding passes for Japan Airlines domestic flights cannot be issued in the United States. Customers connecting at Tokyo/Narita and transferring to an onward international flight should proceed directly to the departure gate for the connecting flight.

Chicago O'Hare - Passengers from Japan will arrive at International Terminal 5, clear United States Immigration, then collect all checked baggage and proceed to Customs for clearance.

Connecting passengers will proceed to the baggage recheck area where baggage will be transferred to connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers will then proceed to Terminal 3 for all connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers with boarding passes will go directly to the departure gate indicated on the flight information monitors throughout the American Airlines terminal.

Passengers without boarding passes should proceed to the American Airlines ticket counter to obtain a boarding pass in order to clear security and proceed to the departure gate.

Honolulu - Connecting passengers from Japan will arrive at the Main Overseas Terminal, clear United States Immigration, collect all checked baggage, and proceed to Customs for clearance.

Passengers should then take all baggage to the American Airlines ticket counter to recheck baggage for all connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers with boarding passes will proceed directly to the departure gate.

Passengers without boarding passes should obtain boarding passes at the American Airlines ticket counter in order to clear security and proceed to the departure gate.

Los Angeles - Passengers from Japan will arrive at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, clear United States Immigration, collect all checked baggage and proceed to Customs for clearance.

Connecting passengers should proceed to the in-transit desk where Japan Airlines and American Airlines personnel will assist in transferring baggage to connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers should then proceed to Terminal 3 or 4 for connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers with boarding passes will go directly to the departure gate indicated on the flight information monitors throughout the American Airlines terminals.

Passengers without boarding passes should proceed to the American Airlines ticket counter to obtain a boarding pass in order to clear security and proceed to the departure gate.

New York JFK - Connecting passengers from Japan will arrive in Terminal 1, clear United States Immigration, collect all checked baggage and proceed to Customs for clearance.

Passengers should then proceed to the baggage recheck area where baggage will be transferred to connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers should go Terminal 8 or 9 for connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers with boarding passes will go directly to the departure gate indicated on the flight information monitors throughout the American Airlines terminals.

Passengers without boarding passes should proceed to the American Airlines ticket counter to obtain a boarding pass in order to clear security and proceed to the departure gate.

San Francisco - Connecting passengers from Japan will arrive at the International Terminal, clear United States Immigration, collect all checked baggage, and proceed to Customs for clearance.

Passengers should continue to the in-transit desk where Japan Airlines and American Airlines personnel will assist in transferring baggage to connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers will then go to Terminal 3 for all connecting American Airlines flights. Passengers with boarding passes will proceed directly to the departure gate indicated on the flight information monitors throughout the American terminals.

Passengers without boarding passes should go to the American Airlines ticket counter to obtain a boarding pass in order to clear security and proceed to the departure gate.


 

Services & Amenities
Checked Baggage and Boarding Passes
Check your baggage through to your final destination and obtain boarding passes for all American Airlines codeshare flights operated by Japan Airlines.

For Domestic Flights within Japan, boarding passes cannot be issued in the United States. Passengers should go to the Japan Airlines check-in counter in Japan to obtain boarding passes.

Classes of Service Offered
Flights operated by Japan Airlines offer First Class, Business Class, and Economy Class service on most transpacific flights. Flights between Honolulu and Japan flights offer Business and Economy Class service only.

Intra-Asian flights, and Domestic flights within Japan operated by Japan Airlines offer either Business and Economy Class service, or all Economy Class service.

Pre-reserved Seats
Available 330 days prior to departure until 24 hours prior to departure on most flights operated by Japan Airlines.

For flights within Japan, pre-reserved seats are available 60 days prior to departure until 24 hours prior to departure.

Special Meals
Dietary meals are offered on flights operated by Japan Airlines, provided meal service is offered. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for all special meal requests

Smoking Policy
All flights operated by Japan Airlines are Non-Smoking.

Fleet
Flights operated by Japan Airlines include Boeing 747-400 and 777 aircraft on all transpacific flights; Boeing 747-400, 777, 767, 737 aircraft on domestic flights within Japan, as well as on flights within Asia.

Lounge Access
When traveling in First Class or Business Class on American Airlines codeshare flights operated by Japan Airlines, customers may use the Admirals Club® lounge or Japan Airlines VIP Lounge on the day of travel.


 

AAdvantage Information
Mileage Accrual
Earn miles on American Airlines codeshare flights operated by Japan Airlines when your ticket reflects an "AA" coded flight number. Elite Status Qualification
You can earn elite-qualifying miles, segments, and points that count toward AAdvantage GoldĀ®, AAdvantage PlatinumĀ® and AAdvantage Executive PlatinumĀ® status on American Airlines codeshare flights operated by Japan Airlines when your ticket reflects an "AA" coded flight number. Award Redemption
You may not redeem mileage for travel on American Airlines codeshare flights operated by Japan Airlines. To make changes to your American Airlines codeshare flight(s), call American Airlines Reservations at 1-800-433-7300 in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico) and Canada.
