The American Airlines Web site, www.aa.com, is the best place to do business online with American. AA.com provides numerous ways to conveniently search for and book low fares and award travel, select seats, make hotel and rental car reservations, get flight arrival/departure information, sign up for flight status notification, and even check in and print boarding passes.
 
Customers who purchase airline tickets on AA.com never pay an online booking fee, have the flexibility to shop by price and schedule and get a lowest-fare guarantee (see www.aa.com/guarantee). Additionally, customers who log in with an AAdvantage number and password can manage their AAdvantage account online and also receive personalized news and specials. History
American Airlines launched its initial, information-based Web site, AmericanAir.com, in May 1995. In 1996 online reservation capability was added and Net SAAver fares were introduced. In 1998 American unveiled a completely redesigned site that drew on existing customer information to instantaneously provide content tailored to the individual user's interests. In 2002 American undertook another extensive site redesign. The new and improved AA.com featured a sleek look, improved navigation, greater personalization, comprehensive Net SAAver & Special Offers section and helpful customer service resources, including FAQs and a search functionality.

We continued to provide more convenient features for our customers in 2003, when we added the ability to book most AAdvantage awards online, and launched Business ExtrAA online. Also that year, the Flight Check-In at AA.com online check-in window was expanded to 24 hours prior to departure. Additionally, the AA.com home page was enhanced with additional tabs linking customers directly to applications with the click of a button. In 2004 we added a new link on the home page that enabled site users to quickly access American's international sites, and shopping tabs at the top of the home page to conveniently link users to flights, cars, hotels, vacations and deals. We also introduced online Admirals Club enrollment/renewal and enabled most customers in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America to use local credit cards to purchase tickets on AA.com. Also in 2004, we launched an enhanced shopping and pricing engine offering more low-fare options to customers, along with dates-flexible search functionality.

AAdvantage Account Management
Once logged in to AA.com, AAdvantage members can manage various aspects of their account online. They have access to AAdvantage Program information such as current mileage balances and are able to view prior summaries. Members also can update their password information, change their address, book award travel, claim award certificates, request missing mileage credit and email AAdvantage Customer Service. AAdvantage members no longer have to memorize a PIN. Now members can use their AAdvantage number and a customized password to log in to their "My Account" page.
 
AAdvantage Member Profile
AA.com provides personalized information based on an individual's AAdvantage member profile. Members have the option to enter their travel preferences — such as preferred airport(s) and destinations, seat and ticket preferences, companion details and credit card information - in their member profile on the "My Account" page. When making future reservations, these preferences are pre-populated in the fields of the booking process.
 
AAdvantage Member Services
A single login lets AAdvantage members access current information about their AAdvantage accounts, plus up to six months of previous account statements. American ensures the security of online transactions by requiring an AAdvantage number and password. Members can request a password and submit an address change online.
 
AAdvantage Program Partners
Internet users can find a list of airlines, restaurants, hotels, rental car companies and many others that participate in the AAdvantage program. Participating companies accept and credit AAdvantage miles for use of their products and services.
 
AAdvantage Upgrades
AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® and AAdvantage Gold® members can easily check their upgrade balance, as well as purchase and request seating upgrades online. After upgrade requests are confirmed, customers are notified via phone, fax, email or pager (where available).
 
Award Booking
The Award Booking feature on AA.com provides AAdvantage members with the ability to redeem AAdvantage miles online for air travel. Currently, you may now book over 60 award options for travel anywhere American Airlines flies around the world. Award booking is available through the AAdvantage section on the site, and an AAdvantage member must be logged in to book online.
 
Deal Finder
DealFinder is a downloadable computer desktop tool that offers customers exclusive, targeted discounted fares to locations throughout American's extensive worldwide network. What makes American's DealFinder tool distinct from fare-alert tools offered by other airlines or travel sites is that it offers the ability to match fares with a customer's selected fare amount. Also unique to DealFinder is the capability to provide customer-initiated searches, searches by travel dates, and live availability searches. Offered through the American Airlines Web site, AA.com, DealFinder is easily downloaded onto computer desktops and will send alerts when fares matching pre-selected preferences are available. Flight Check-In At AA.com
AA.com offers online check-in to its domestic e-ticket customers. Members can check in for flights anytime from 24 hours to one hour prior to departure anywhere they have a connection to the Internet and a printer, then select their seat, print their own boarding pass and head straight for the gate. Flight Check-In at AA.com is available for travel in the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
 
Flight Status Notification
AA.com visitors can sign up to receive proactive notification of American Airlines or American Eagle flight arrival or departure times, as well as gate and baggage information through a variety of wired and wireless devices. This information is delivered by voice message via phone, or text message via email, alphanumeric pager, text-enabled wireless phone or personal digital assistant. Customers can subscribe to flight status notification during the reservations process, in the Travel Information section or through their "My Account" page.
 
Gates and Times
By simply entering a flight number, members and guests can access up-to-the-minute arrival and departure times along with gate information. Gates and Times is available in the Travel Information section on AA.com.
 
Guest Booking
Through the guest booking feature, guests can purchase air travel on AA.com without obtaining an AAdvantage number and password, which is needed to be a member and receive special benefits. The new feature makes purchasing air travel on AA.com more widely available to all Internet users. Guests also can view online-only fare specials and check gates and times on AA.com.
 
Last-Minute Packages
This section of AA.com is dedicated solely to last-minute trips and offers weekend package deals for:
  • Flight plus car rental
  • Flight plus hotel stay (with optional car rental)
  • Hotel stay plus car rental
Packages can be purchased anywhere from 14 days prior to just hours prior to departure time. Packages require a Saturday-night stay. Customers can often depart as early as Thursday of one week and return as late as Tuesday the following week, depending on availability. Lowest Fare Gurantee
We guarantee you'll find the lowest fares available for flights on American Airlines at AA.com. On the same day, following your ticket purchase on AA.com, if you find an American Airlines fare for at least $5 less for the exact same flight and itinerary on another Web site, American will refund the difference in fare and give you a $50 discount code to use toward a future flight purchase. The itinerary must be purchased through AA.com, originate in the domestic 50 United States, and be for flights on American, American Eagle and AmericanConnection only. In early 2008, American Airlines rolled out a mobile version of AA.com that makes accessing the site while traveling easier than ever before. On-the-go customers who access AA.com from a Web-enabled cell phone, PDA or other handheld device will be automatically redirected to the mobile version of AA.com, a site optimized in both design and content to make the experience faster and easier. If users prefer not to use the mobile version of AA.com, a link to the full HTML version is also available. Customized for use on an Internet-enabled handheld device, the mobile version of AA.com can access all of the most popular features on AA.com including:
