Fares: Compassion/Bereavement Fare |

American Airlines offers a compassion fare for customers traveling due to a medical emergency or death of a family member not limited to immediate family of the passenger. Domestic partners are allowed.
This fare also applies to customers traveling due to a medical emergency within their family.
Customers must meet certain qualifications and provide specific information to obtain the compassion fare.
AA compassion/bereavement fares must be booked by AA only. Tickets may be issued by travel agents. Tickets must be completed within one day after the reservation is completed and changes to reservations must be made by AA.

As of April 4, 2003 AA offers compassion fares for war.
American Airlines will offer our compassion fares to relatives and friends of soldiers who are listed as deceased, injured, missing in action or prisoners of war.
Relatives or friends who wish to travel and state their reason for travel is a U.S. soldier who is deceased, injured, missing in action, or a prisoner of war, will be allowed to travel using our
Compassion fares. This applies for both domestic and international travel. Travel can be to join the soldier or a family member.
As a reminder, AA compassion/bereavement fares must be booked by AA only. Tickets may be issued by travel agents. Agencies that make or change the reservations for these fares in their GDS are subject to a debit memo.
