Dallas Love Field (DAL) Service

With the FAA approval of revisions to the Wright Amendment in October 2006, two important changes will now allow customers to have a through fare on one ticket to/from Dallas Love Field (DAL) to a point outside the Wright Amendment states, and customers will be allowed to through check their baggage to a point outside the Wright Amendment states.

Currently, AA flies to/from STL and MCI, and American Eagle flies to/from AUS and SAT. With the new revisions a customer can fly, for example, from DAL via STL to LGA on one ticket with a through fare DAL-LGA, and their bags can be through checked from DAL to LGA. No longer will bags have to be claimed and rechecked. Fares with LV in the fare basis code that once applied only for travel to/from DAL have been removed. New schedules to/from DAL will be loaded soon.

Additionally, customers can option for Confirmed Flight Change or stand-by travel, as allowed by the fare, between DFW and DAL.

Wright Amendment parameters do not apply to AAdvantage free award tickets, including Reduced Mileage Awards, and Agency Earned/Free tickets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Wright Amendment?
The Wright Amendment is federal legislation that was enacted in 1979 to allow flights between Dallas Love Field and the adjoining states:

  • Louisiana
  • Arkansas
  • Oklahoma
  • New Mexico
In 1997, three additional states were added to the Love Field service area. They include:
  • Alabama
  • Mississippi
  • Kansas
In 2005, Missouri was added to the list of permitted destinations for non-stop flights from Dallas Love Field.

In 2014, the Wright Amendment will be completely repealed, and the total number of gates at DAL will be reduced.

Why has American chosen to fly from Love Field?
With the changes to the Wright Amendment in recent years, American and American Eagle have chosen to take the necessary steps to ensure we remain competitive with carriers that choose to operate from Love Field.

Are the fares the same from DFW as from DAL?
Currently, base fares are the same for both airports.

Can I stand-by for a flight at DFW if I originally purchased a fare originating from DAL, or vice versa?
Yes, provided the ticketed fare rules are met.

Can I confirm a different flight than I originally booked for same-day departure, including a change from DFW to DAL, or vice versa?
Yes. You may confirm a different flight, at either DFW or DAL, on the same-day as originally scheduled for a nominal fee using AA's Confirmed Flight Change program.
