Special Meals Not Offered Systemwide
|
December 28, 2007
Agents are reminded to verify the availability of special meals before entering a request in a PNR. Special meals are offered for B / L / D / S / K meal service codes for DBML, GFML, VGML, KSML and MOML. An Asian vegetarian meal, AVML, is available for flights to/from DEL only. Until further notice, VGML meals will not be offered on flight to/from DEL; only the Asian spicy AVML will be available for special meal orders. For AA flights, SPML is not an automated code for special meal requests; therefore, agents should not use SPML when ordering special meals. Also, meal code F in Coach indicates food available for purchase only; special meals are not offered.
Special meals are offered in only those select markets listed below, and must be ordered within the time guidelines as stated below.
Special meals must be ordered at least 12 hours prior to the flight for the following:
- In First and Business Classes on transcontinental flights in the U.S.
- In all classes to Europe and Asia
- In all classes to Rio de Janeiro, or Sao Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile or Montevideo, Uruguay
- Note: Special meals are not offered on flights to/from Lima, Peru
Special meals must be ordered at least 24 hours prior to the flight in all classes from Rio de Janeiro, or Sao Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile or Montevideo, Uruguay as well as all of Europe and Asia.
Additionally, agents using automated special meal codes outlined above must review the PNR for an immediate response after end transaction. Only responses with a KK reply will be considered on queue for special meal processing. A reply of UC, UN or NO indicates that the requested special meal is not available.

Passenger and Medical Acceptance Policies
|
December 11, 2007
Passenger and medical acceptance policies, which cover travelers with medical conditions or special requirements, may vary between airlines. The most restrictive policies of any carrier participating in the itinerary apply; therefore, agents are advised to check each carrier's references for acceptance policies. For codeshare flights, the passenger acceptance policies of the operating carrier would apply.

Infant Restraint Seats: Check the Rules
|
December 4, 2007
Each carrier has their own policies with regard to the type of infant seat they will accept on board. For example, the governing aviation administrations of some countries do not allow rear-facing infant seats. To avoid any inconvenience at check-in/boarding, the passenger should be urged to inquire directly with the operating carrier prior to departure regarding what type of infant seat is acceptable. It is also possible that this information is located on the individual airline's website.
