03 September: Fee for tickets purchased in the U.S.
Effective Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, American Airlines
will implement a $5.00 service fee for tickets
purchased through its U.S. reservations offices.
In addition, tickets purchased at airport
locations in the U.S. will include a $10.00
service fee. The non-refundable fee will apply
per ticket, whether it is one-way or roundtrip,
and also will apply to tickets redeemed as
AAdvantage program awards. The service fees will
be waived for AAdvantage Executive Platinum
members and AAirpass customers.(The fee does not
apply to travel agents).
These steps are necessary to ensure that we can
compete effectively in a marketplace where
charging fees for personalized, value-added
services is becoming a common practice. Low-cost
carriers often charge a fee on tickets issued
with the help of their reservations centre or
airport staff.
This fee does not apply to traditional travel
agencies and online travel sites who charge their
own fees for services they provide.
In addition, this fee will not apply to:
- Tickets that are being reissued
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum members -
when the member is traveling. The fee will
not apply to either revenue or award
travel. The fee will not apply to any
passenger in the same PNR as the Executive
Platinum member.
- AAdvantage award tickets issued within 21
days where an award ticketing fee already
applies
- Military fares
- Bereavement fares
- PTAs
- AAirpass transactions
- Tickets issued anywhere outside the U.S.

06 September: Pets to Japan - reminder
Due to USDA (United States Dept of Agriculture) restrictions, an animal must be offered
water every 12 hours and because the flying time
on most American Airlines (AA) nonstop flights to
Japan exceeds 12 hours, passengers checking a pet
must be booked on a flight connecting in SJC or
LAX to provide sufficient time for proper care of
the pet at the connecting point. Checked pets are
not accepted from the non-west coast gateways to
Tokyo. Thank you for your attention.
