04 June:   Oneworld releases Swiss from oneworld committments

Oneworld has released Swiss International Airlines from its commitment to join the global alliance. TGe move follows an agreement between the airline and established oneworld partner British Airways to free Swiss, at its request, from the bilateral commercial agreement they signed in october 2003, which was a fundamental condition of it becoming a member of the global alliance.

All code-shares and bilateral relationships between Swiss and the other existing individual oneworld partners remain in place.

Swiss has indicated that oneworld is still its preferred alliance and that it hopes to be in a position to seek membership again in the future. Oneworld continues to offer the world's most international network, serve more countries than any other alliance, market more alliance fares and sales products than all other rivals combined, and lead the field in customer service between all our partners, which is on track for full implementation by the end of this year.

09 June 2004:   AA offers E-ticketing with all oneworld partners

American is the first airline to offer Interline Electronic Ticketing (IET) with all its alliance partners, with the recent implementation of IET with oneworld members Aer Lingus and Iberia. By year's end, oneworld will be the first global alliance with IET among all member carriers. E-tickets provide many customer conveniences including faster refunds and changes and connections between carriers; they cannot be lost or stolen and are key to using the flight check-in feature on AA.com, AA curbside check-in and AA self-service check-in machines. More than 90 percent of AA's customers now travel on E-tickets and American now offers IET with 21 other carriers - more than any other airline.

17 June:   American Airlines implements Journey Data

American Airlines will implement Journey Data with the following GDS:

  • Worldspan - June 16, 2004
  • Sabre - June 22, 2004
  • Amadeus - June 29, 2004
  • Galileo/Apollo - June 30, 2004

  • Worldspan - July 7, 2004
  • Sabre - July 13, 2004
  • Amadeus - July 20, 2004
  • Galileo/Apollo - TBA

23 June 2004:   TSA registered traveler pilot programme

On wednesday, June 16, 2004 the Transportation Security Administration issued a news release announcing a new registered traveler pilot programme. The programme will involve various tests that will be conducted at five domestic airports over a rolling 90-day period ending in november.

Specific airlines will be involved in the pilot. They are Northwest at Minneapolis-St. Paul, United Airlines at Los Angeles, Continental at Houston and American at Boston and then Washington Reagan. The Boston pilot will begin August 1 and the Washington Reagan pilot on August 18. Both will run a 90-day period.

American Airlines is supportive of the efforts by the TSA to provide what our most frequent flyers have been seeking, which is a more streamlined security process that does not denegrate our nations air transportation security efforts but allows them to transit through the airport more quickly and efficently.

AA has a project team working with the TSA on this initiative and will be distributing more information as the project rolls out. All additional media questions should be directed to the TSA at www.tsa.gov
