Reach AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold® status when you purchase eligible fare tickets and fly on American Airlines, American Eagle, the AmericanConnection® carrier and AAdvantage participating airlines. You can reach AAdvantage elite-status levels in one of three ways – points, miles or segments.
AAdvantage Participant Airlines
Earn elite-qualifying points, miles and segments for travel on eligible fare tickets on: American Airlines, American Eagle, the American Connection carrier, oneworld member airlines and their affiliates, Alaska Airlines (including Horizon Air), and American Airlines codeshare flights where the ticket reflects an American Airlines coded flight number.
The number of elite-status points you earn is based on a combination of earned miles and the class of service purchased. Below is a chart reflecting the number of points earned for travel on American Airlines, American Eagle and the AmericanConnection carrier as well as American Airlines marketed codeshare flights. For information regarding points earned for travel on AAdvantage participant airlines, select the links above to visit the appropriate airline page.
Example: A flight on American Airlines from DFW to New York/LaGuardia = 1,389 base miles. If you purchase a full-fare Economy Class ticket booked in 'Y', you will earn 1.50 points per mile according to the chart below. 1,389 base miles x 1.50 points per mile = 2,084 points earned toward elite-status qualification.
|Fare Purchased||Booking Class||Points Per Qualifying
|First Class||A, F, P||1.50|
|Business Class||D, I, J,R||1.50|
|Full-Fare Economy Class||B, Y,W*||1.50|
|Discount Economy Class||H, K, M, L, W, V||1.00|
|Deep Discount Economy Class||G, Q, N, O**, S||0.50|
**Tickets between North America and Latin America booked in O are not eligible.
* In some cases, AA codeshare flights booked in 'W' (marketed by AA and operated by other airlines), represent travel in a Premium Economy cabin or fare and will, therefore, earn 1.50 points per qualifying mile earned.
Excludes Internet fares noted as non-mileage earning.
Elite-Status Qualifying Miles or Segments
Qualifying miles or segments are the actual miles or segments you earn on eligible purchased tickets for flights aboard American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection carrier, oneworld member airlines and their affiliates, Alaska Airlines (including Horizon Air), and/or American Airlines marketed codeshare flights (ticket must reflect an American Airlines coded flight number), including applicable minimum mileage guarantees.
Note: Members must fly at least four segments on American Airlines, American Eagle or the AmericanConnection carrier to qualify for AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold status within the qualifying year. Qualifying miles do not include class-of-service bonus miles, other participant miles or any other AAdvantage bonus mileage. Miles purchased through buyAAmiles and giftAAmiles do not qualify for elite status.
As we track your activity, we'll notify you when you qualify for membership in one of these premium levels. You can qualify for elite status by earning the required number of miles, points or segments during a calendar year:

The membership year, lasts from March 1 through the final day of February of the following year.
Here are some examples of this elite qualification timeline:
Since you begin receiving elite benefits immediately upon qualification, the beginning of your membership year is the day you qualify for your elite level. Then, on March 1, every elite member's year starts over.
If you are an AAdvantage Gold or AAdvantage Platinum member, you earn four 500-Mile Upgrades for every 10,000 qualifying miles flown during your membership year. The mileage counters that are used to determine the number of 500-Mile Upgrades earned are re-set to zero every March 1.
