You can use your AAdvantage miles to fly to exciting destinations on American Airlines, American Eagle® or the AmericanConnection® carrier, oneworld member airlines and other AAdvantage participant airlines. You may use your miles for yourself or for anyone you designate* at the time of ticketing. The itinerary you choose determines the number of miles you need to use.**
Each award is valid for one way travel unless otherwise specified. You can create the award itinerary that best meets your needs by combining multiple award types for each direction of travel.
This type of travel award provides you with the most flexibility, because with an AAnytime Award you can book any unsold seat on any flight, on any day. When you travel using an AAnytime Award, you'll also receive additional travel benefits including two free checked bags, complimentary access to Preferred Seats and PriorityAAccessSM privileges, which include expedited check-in, exclusive security screening lanes (where available) and priority boarding.
This type of travel award requires fewer miles. Using a MileSAAver Award is ideal if your travel plans are flexible since this more economical option is subject to limitations on seat availability as well as travel embargo dates on some participant airlines.
See how many miles you'll need for your next adventure by clicking on the red American Airlines Award Chart button. Then, view a quick demo to learn how to book award travel. And, when you're ready, book your travel.
oneworld and Other Airline Awards allow members to travel on a combination of any of our oneworld and other participating airlines that offer eligible service to your destination. Our combination of AAdvantage oneworld and other participant airlines can take you to over 950 destinations throughout the world. You may, of course, always travel on American Airlines for any portion of the itinerary. These awards are subject to special limitations on seating availability and to travel embargo dates on some participant airlines.
View the oneworld and Other Airline Award Chart to determine the number of miles you need based on your desired origin and destination and cabin.
Explorer Awards allow you to travel to multiple regions or multiple cities within a region on a single award. These awards are valid on all of the airlines in the oneworld Alliance - airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7, as well as more than 20 of their affiliate airlines. The mileage required to claim these awards is based on the total mileage of the trip. All flights, including connections, are included in the mileage calculation.
Standard MileSAAver capacity controls and embargo dates apply. Award travel is not valid on codeshare flights. Certain restrictions apply on Explorer Awards.
Additionally, we offer members the opportunity to purchase an individual published-fare Economy Class or Business Class ticket and use AAdvantage miles and a non-refundable co-pay, if applicable, to confirm an upgrade to Business Class or First Class on American Airlines, British Airways or Iberia. You may use your miles for yourself or for anyone you designate* at the time of ticketing. View upgrade award information and details on how to make Upgrade Award Reservations.
Award tickets are subject to applicable taxes and security fees.
No AAdvantage award charges apply when booking award reservations 21 days or more prior to departure via AA.com. Certain charges apply when requesting award travel within 21 days of travel and when ticketing awards via Reservations or at the Airport.
