ADEPT Program Overview

AA Development Program for Technology (ADEPT) is a college recruiting program created to develop a technical talent pipeline for Information Technology Services (ITS). The program was developed to promote leadership skills and to expose the recruits to the diverse opportunities American Airlines has to offer. It was started in the fall of 2006 with the first group of ADEPT recruits starting in the summer of 2007.

ADEPT is a two-year development program and the recruits are hired as full time employees, not interns. During the first year of the program, the ADEPT member participates in orientation, ADEPT activities, and training while assigned to an ITS department. After the completion of their first year, the ADEPT member is rotated into a new department, with a commitment to stay in the second department for at least a year. After the second year, ADEPT members have officially completed the program.

	2 Week Orientation During the first two weeks of the program, ADEPT members learn about American Airlines' Operations and Mission through sessions with senior managers. This time is spent primarily on ADEPT activities, including tours, courses in professional development and leadership training.
	Rotations YEAR1 During the first year in the program, ADEPT employees participate in orientation, ADEPT activities and training while assigned to an ITS department. ADEPT members are also expected to participate in a special group research project to benefit ITS overall. This is above and beyond their regular job responsibilities. YEAR2 At the conclusion of the first year, ADEPT members are rotated to another area within ITS to gain exposure to a different department. It is also at this time that the ADEPT member is expected to have the tools and knowledge to drive his or her own career at American Airlines. There are no formally-coordinated ADEPT activities or training during the second year. However, ADEPT members will have an opportunity to gain exposure to international ITS initiatives and operations.
	Department Walk-A-Miles ADEPT employees have a distinct advantage over other employees through quarterly department walk-a-miles which gives them exposure to other departments across Information Technology Services (ITS).
	Brown Bag Lunches Brown bag lunches with Managing Directors to discuss their career at AA, significant accomplishments, current work, and ITS challenges and opportunities.
	Mentorship Program Each ADEPT member is given 2 mentors to guide him/her throughout the program: one ADEPT employee from the previous class and a senior level manager.
	Tours Some of the tours coordinated for the ADEPT Program include the following: Alliance Maintenance and Engineering Base, DFW airport, Southern Reservations Office, System Operations Control, Flight Academy
	Training Some of the training classes provided during the ADEPT Program include Executive Presentation Skills, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Class, The OZ Principle Class, Emotional Intelligence, SDLC: System Development Life Cycle, SharePoint.
