UNICEF - Change For Good(R) Program

  Unicef US Fund

The Change for Good Program
Change for Good® -- an innovative partnership between UNICEF (the United Nations Children's Fund) and the international airline industry -- was created in 1987 and is one of UNICEF's best known, and longest-running global fundraising campaigns. American Airlines has been the participating airline of the Change for Good program in the United States since 1994.

The concept is simple: travelers on international flights can donate their unused U.S. and foreign currency to help UNICEF reduce the number of preventable childhood deaths from 22,000 per day to zero. These contributions are used to provide lifesaving assistance to the developing world's poorest, most vulnerable children in over 150 countries where UNICEF has programs, including every country to which American Airlines flies.

American Airlines is one of nine international airlines supporting this program, including oneworld® partners Qantas, Finnair, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines. Donations of Dollars, Pounds, Euros, Yen, Pesos, and other currencies have generated over $90 million to date and helped UNICEF provide a healthier, happier future for millions of children.

About UNICEF
UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. Working in more than 150 countries, UNICEF provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF's work through fundraising, advocacy, and education in the United States.

UNICEF is at the forefront of efforts to reduce child mortality worldwide. There has been substantial progress: the annual number of under-five deaths dropped from 13 million in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2008. But still, 22,000 children die each day from preventable causes. Our mission is to do whatever it takes to make that number zero by giving children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood. For more information, visit www.unicefusa.org

A globally recognized, respected and trusted brand, UNICEF is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. And, in 2010, UNICEF received its sixth consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator.
