All free AAdvantage awards valid for travel on AA must be booked and ticketed by AA.
Travel Agents may book Upgrade, Companion and Discount award space.
Additionally, Travel Agents may book free travel awards on partner carriers as long as Direct Access / Total Access / Direct Connect is used to make the booking. Ticketing must be done by AA.
AAdvantage PNR Creation For Members
The last name and first name of an AAdvantage member must match exactly with name on file with AAdvantage department.
This procedure will ensure that your clients receive automatic mileage credit for their flights, hotel stays and car rentals.
Upgrade Award Procedures
American Airlines no longer issues paper award certificates for AAdvantage award travel.
Travel Agents may contact AAdvantage Reservations at 1-800-882-8880 to have an upgrade processed, but must do so as soon as the upgrade inventory is confirmed. This applies to both mileage awards and VIP upgrades. This will assist our customers by expediting the check-in process and reducing spoilage.
In addition, to avoid ticketing problems, Travel Agents should ticket the revenue space prior to placing the itinerary in the upgraded inventory. Once upgraded, AA cannot guarantee the revenue space can be rebooked in order to ticket.
If the original agency-issued ticket is electronic, Reservations will reissue the electronic ticket record (ETR). If the original agency ticket is paper and travel is within 12 days, the customer must have the ticket reissued at the airport ticket counter.
Note: If multiple carriers are involved in the itinerary and the passenger is requesting an upgrade with more than one carrier, the ticket needs to be issued/reissued as separate tickets to ensure that the upgrade is deducted from the member's account.
