American Airlines Implements an Enhanced Name Correction Policy
Issued: 23Aug13

Effective August 26, 2013, American Airlines Sales Support is implementing an enhanced name correction policy to assist our travel agency partners with minor name corrections on American (001)-validated tickets. In most instances, this will enable travel agents to process a minor name correction within the same PNR, eliminating the requirement to request a name correction waiver and collecting a processing fee through SalesLink or by contacting Sales Support by phone/email prior to ticket reissuance. Please note the below policies:

1. Minor Name Corrections on American (001)-validated tickets for wholly American flight itineraries and itineraries that include specific AA* oneworld carriers: travel agents can process a minor name correction within the same PNR without contacting Sales Support. The definition of a minor name correction is as follows:

  • Correct Last Name (maximum 3 characters)
  • Nickname to full name
  • Middle Name or Middle Initial
  • Correct spelling of passenger's first name
  • Inverted Names
  • Correction of children surnames (Last Name)

2. Major Name Corrections on American (001)-validated tickets for wholly American flight itineraries: travel agents can process a major name correction within the same PNR prior to requesting the required waiver authorization through SalesLink or by contacting Sales Support. Processing fees may be applicable. The definition of a major name correction is as follows:

  • Corrections to a customer's last name that is more than three characters
  • Legal Name Change
  • Changes due to marriage or divorce
  • A name correction has already been made to the ticket

3. AA* Codeshare or Other Airline Segments on American (001)-validated tickets for: if the name field is altered in the ticketed PNR without Sales Support authorization, the itinerary is subject to cancellation because of non-synchronization in the airline host system. In certain scenarios, Sales Support will not be able to provide any assistance to reinstate the space due to the other airline and codeshare space.
