Electronic System For Travel Authorization Enforced
January 20, 2010
Effective today, Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) migrated to enforcement mode for all travelers entering the United States by air or sea, which means that American activated ESTA programming to interface with CBP during the check-in process to generate a Boarding Pass for passengers who have a valid ESTA. Travelers without an ESTA will not be issued a boarding pass and will not clear passport/visa checks, and will NOT be allowed to travel.
Eligible travelers who want to travel under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) must apply for authorization using the process found online at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. You will find more info about ESTA at www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta
