Mexicana Airlines (MX) Discontinued Service ** Update 1 **

American Airlines has revised the Mexicana Customer Assist Policy. The updated information has been underscored below.

MX CUSTOMER ASSIST - American Airlines (AA) policy to provide assistance to customers who hold MX/132 or AA/001 tickets issued for travel on Mexicana during their disruption of service.  These policies are for customers traveling between Mexico and the 48 United States only.   

MX Flight(s) Commencing Travel September 8 - 30

This policy is for travel commencing September 8 - September 30, 2010 only.  

AA/001 ticket and space on MX for travel to/from 48 United States and Mexico only the following options will be available.  

  • If AA services the same cities must book all AA onto American Airlines, American Eagle and AmericanConnection® carriers
    • Must be booked in the SAME inventory as ticketed
    • Ticket Change Fee (ASC) is waived
    • Reissue the ticket as an even exchange
    • Phase IV- 4.0 ticket
    • IT Box:  MXSEP08-30
    • Endorsement Box must be notated as follows:
      • INVOL MX SEP08-30
    • Document the PNR with the following OSI message entry:
      • 4OSI AA Reissue per MX ASSIST/SEP08-30
  • If inventory is not available , you cannot change the itinerary for free
    • Book the lowest inventory available for fare
    • Advance purchase requirements may be waived to obtain the fare you are booking 
      (i.e., Customer’s  original ticket was purchased 14-days in advance. The new inventory available to be booked is a 14/ 7-day advance and the passenger does not meet the 14/7-day advance – the advance purchase will be waived.   
    • Ticket Change Fee (ASC) is waived
    • Phase IV- 4.0 ticket
    • Reissue the ticket
    • IT Box:  MXSEP08-30
    • Endorsement Box must be notated as follows:
      • INVOL MX SEP08-30
    • Document the PNR with the following OSI message entry:
      • 4OSI AA Reissue per MX ASSIST/SEP08-30
  • If AA does not service the same city
    • Travel Agents are advised to contact AA Reservations for assistance when passenger needs to be confirmed to an alternate city. AA must do the reissue of the 001 ticket.

Should MX resume operation and the customer has been rebooked all applicable fare rules will apply should they want to transfer back to MX.  

MX Segments Not Between Mexico And 48 U.S.

Customer ticketed on AA/001 ticket stock for international travel involving MX segments may only refund:

  • Refund allowed to original form of payment - Waive Penalty Fee
  • Document the PNR with the following OSI message entry:
    • 4OSI AA Refund per MX ASSIST/SEP10
  • Update ARC Refund Detail screen in the waiver code box as follows:
    • INVOLMXSEP10

With MX Flights Traveling October 1 And Beyond

AA/001 ticket with MX segment for travel October 1, 2010 and beyond, to/from 48 United States and Mexico only:

  • Refund Ticket as follows:
    • Refund allowed to original form of payment - Waive Penalty Fee
    • Document the PNR with the following OSI message entry:
      • 4OSI AA Refund per MX ASSIST/OCT10
    • Update ARC Refund Detail screen in the waiver code box as follows:
      • INVOLMXOCT10
  • If AA does not service the same city
    • Travel Agents are advised to contact AA Reservations for assistance when passenger needs to be confirmed to an alternate city. AA must do the reissue of the 001 ticket.
  • Purchase New Ticket

AA's Mexicana Assist Policy provides assistance to customer commencing travel on or before September 30, 2010.  It is uncertain when Mexicana will resume service.

MX/132 ticketed customers confirmed on MX operated flights

American Airlines will offer these customers for travel to/from the 48 United States and Mexico only, a 20% discount off of AA published fares. This special ticket fare must be issued by American Airlines directly to apply for the 20% discount off any fare AA offers in the market ticketed for travel. Travel Agents can not book or ticket this special fare.

The customer must be holding a MX/132 ticket for this policy to apply.  AA will not accept MX/132 ticket stock for reissue.  Customer must contact Mexicana to discuss settlement.

Without MX Segments 

If a customer is holding MX /132 ticket flying on AA flights and the flights are operating .

  • No voluntary changes permitted
  • If AA flight(s) are canceled
  • Refunds- No AA Refunds 
    • Customers who are ticketed on MX/132 validated ticket and want a refund due to an AA flight cancellation, must be referred to Mexicana as they are the validating carrier for the refund.

Please ensure the above procedures are accurately followed to prevent debit memo issuance.
