Metal Swap - Operating Carrier Change – Informational Notification
Issued: 12Jun14

This informational notification is to provide the Travel Agency with identifying  and working a Metal Swap – Operating Carrier change for the customer.

Metal Swap:  is the term American & US Airways use when flights operated with one carrier’s metal are replaced with those operated by the other carrier.

  1. AA Prime to AA* codeshare operated by US
  2. AA*codeshare operated by US to AA Prime
  3. US Prime to US* codeshare operated by AA
  4. US*codeshare operated by AA to US Prime

When schedule changes for the affected flights are published, here is how the PNRs you’ve booked will be updated:

  1. The originally-booked AA or AA* flight will change to UN status and a replacement segment added to the itinerary as KK
  2. The originally-booked US or US* flight will change to UN status and a replacement segment added to the itinerary as KK
  3. The OSI Field in the PNR will be updated as follows::
    OSI YY METAL SWAP
OSI YY OPERATING CARRIER CHANGE - PLEASE REISSUE TICKET
  4. It is very important that you change the KK to HK  as soon as possible as this will allow future schedule change information to transmit correctly
  5. Pre-reserved seats, preferred and paid seats, along with special service requests for the customer, will need to be re- assigned by the agency for the “change of operating carrier” on the new flight. Seats are based upon availability.
  6. If the ticket has not been reissued at least 30 days prior to departure, a second message will be updated in the PNR as follows:

SSR ADTK XX KK# METAL SWAP - PLEASE REISSUE TICKET
(XX = GDS Code / # = number of passengers)

If you have established a process for all of your PNRs to fall onto a designated queue when a schedule change takes place, these PNRs will be on that notification queue.

Once you identify the impacted flight(s), simply remove/cancel the UN segment(s), change the KK segments to HK, this is to ensure any other schedule change information is received properly. Reissue the ticket for the new itinerary.

Ticket reissue is required so that the e-ticket coupons can be sent to the new Operating Carrier and match the new flight segment.

Once the reissue of the ticket has been processed, please notify your customer of these metal swap changes to avoid any check-in issues as American and US Airways may operate from different airport terminals.

If the  schedule change results in a change from a non-stop to a connection please refer to our guidelines located on:
Schedule Change-Rule 240/80-Schedule Irregularity

On-Time Departure
Updated: 11Jun14
Issued: 02Jun14

On-time punctuality is a very important customer expectation. In order to provide a more consistent experience across the American Airlines network, we have set a goal to close the jetbridge door at 10 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure. This is to allow our customers time to board, stow their carry-on items, and to be comfortably seated and ready for an on-time flight departure. Please note that our recommended airport check-in and baggage acceptance times have not changed, and other boarding procedures also remain the same.
