Diversity MBA Magazine Gives AA High Rankings
Diversity MBA Magazine has singled out American Airlines for two top diversity honors. Among the magazine’s “ 50 Out Front Companies for Diversity Leadership: Best Places For Diverse Managers to Work 2009”, American ranked 17th. For outstanding results in specialty categories, Diversity MBA ranked American among the Top 10 Best Companies for Board Diversity. The magazine’s evaluations this year were expanded to include companies that implement intentional strategies based on accountability, strong inclusion practices, and ongoing evaluation of retention and recruitment activities that allow and encourage managers of diverse backgrounds to excel and develop into leadership roles

AMR Diversity Advisory Council Honored
The Association of Diversity Councils has recognized AMR’s leadership and dedication to diversity and inclusion at its First Annual Diversity Council awards program. AMR’s diversity council ranked ninth among the Top 25 councils named for recognition. It is comprised of two members from each of AMR’s 16 employee resource groups, which lead the diversity process throughout the company.

American Honored As "Corporate Business of the Year" In Miami
The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce named American Airlines the 2009 "Corporate Business of the Year" at its annual awards banquet. Chamber President and CEO Bill Diggs praised AA as "a corporate leader in working with minority businesses in Miami."

AA Cargo Recognized For Excellence
For the third consecutive year, AA Cargo has been recognized for excellence by the Express Delivery & Logistics Association. AA Cargo won the "silver award" in the "Best Domestic Carrier" category at the Association's annual AirCargo 2009 Conference in Las Vegas.

AA Wins "Employer of Choice" Award from Minority Corporate Counsel Association
American Airlines and Coca Cola were honored by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association with its "Employer of Choice" Award for 2009. The Association evaluates corporate law departments for their commitment to diversity, recognizing those who "celebrate diversity and move forward to create workplaces of inclusion." In accepting the award, AA Senior Vice President and General Counsel Gary Kennedy underscored the importance to American of its Diversity Advisory Council and 16 Employee Resource Groups.

Equal Opportunity Magazine Honors AA As Top 50 Employer
American was honored as one of the “Top 50 Employers” in the U.S. by readers of Equal Opportunity magazine in that publication’s 16th annual survey. AA was ranked 25th on the Top 50 list and was the only airline chosen. In the survey, readers vote for companies they would most prefer to work for or that they believe are progressive in hiring practices.

American Again Named Top Airline in the Dominican Republic
Readers of Mercado, the top business magazine in the Dominican Republic, have again selected American as the Number One and Most Admired Airline in the country. AA has served the Dominican Republic for more than 30 years.

Business Traveler Readers Give AA Top Honors
The thousands of readers of Business Traveler magazine said in an open-ended readership survey that American Airlines is the “Best Airline for First Class Service in North America” for 2008. AA received the award at ceremonies in Los Angeles honoring the winners of the magazine’s annual Best in Business Travel Awards competition.

American Honored In Panama
American was honored with the annual Friendship Award by the U.S.-Panama Business Council at its 14 th Annual gala in Washington, D.C. The award is presented to individual and organizations from both the public and private sectors that have made a difference in U.S.-Panama relations.

Global Traveler Names American Best In Domestic First Class
For the third consecutive year, readers of Global Traveler magazine have given top domestic First Class honors to American. The magazine surveyed more than 31,400 business and leisure travelers to determine the best business and luxury travel for 2008.

Vijay Amritraj Foundation Gives American Airlines Global Citizen Award
In recognition of American Airlines’ major support for fund-raising activities by charities in India, and in appreciation for the company’s long-standing corporate commitment to charitable causes, the Vijay Amritraj Foundation named American a winner of its Global Citizen Award for 2008. American received the award at a major Global Citizen function in Los Angeles. Vijay Amritraj is a highly respected Indian-American whose foundation supports and recognizes a wide range of charitable endeavors worldwide. These include tsunami recovery efforts, which also had American’s support.

Brazil Magazine Names AA Best International Airline
For the second year in a row, American Airlines was selected as the Best International Airline for 2008 by Viagens e Turismo, a leading travel magazine in Brazil. Dilson Vercosa, American's Director of Sales and Marketing in Brazil, received the award on behalf of the more than 400 employees in the country.

AA.com Receives Top Tech Honor
American Airlines won the Tech Titan Award as part of the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex Technology Business Council’s seventh annual Tech Titan Awards program. AA received the award for AA.com in the Technology Adoption category. Tech Titans was established in 2001 by the Council to recognize the best in innovation, leadership and emerging technologies.

American Airlines was named Best North American Airline for the 16th consecutive year at the 2008 Business Traveller Awards. Business Traveller magazine presents its awards based on findings of its annual survey of its readers, who represent some of the world’s most discerning, affluent, and frequent international business travelers.

American Airlines was named “North America’s Leading Airline” at the 2008 World Travel Awards, a travel industry award program that has been described by the Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars of the Travel Industry.” In 2007, travel professionals at the World Travel Awards selected American Airlines as offering the world’s leading Economy Class product.

American Airlines Named One Of Top 60 Companies For Hispanics By Hispanic Business Magazine For Third Consecutive Year
American Airlines is one of the Top 60 Companies for Hispanics, according to Hispanic Business magazine, for its diversity initiatives and its dedication to the Hispanic community. American Airlines was ranked 32nd by Hispanic Business, which uses several variables that measure U.S. companies' commitment to Hispanic hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy, and supplier diversity. American was the highest ranked airline and among just two airlines in the Top 60 Diversity Elite Directory.

American Receives Award for Promoting Diversity
For the sixth consecutive year, American was honored with the LATINA Style 50 Awards. American received the award for recognizing the value of a diverse workforce. The LATINA Style Magazine report has become a prestigious analysis of corporate America's efforts for promoting diversity and providing career advancement opportunities for Hispanic women. Patricia Delgadillo, Managing Director Corporate Insurance and Risk Management, and Diana Baez, National Account Manager U.S. Hispanic Sales and Marketing, received the award on behalf of AA at a White House ceremony.

Dolara Honored for Contribution to Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade County's economic development agency, The Beacon Council, has awarded Peter J. Dolara with the Jay Malina Award for outstanding contributions to the local community. Among those speaking in a video tribute were Armando Codina, AMR's Lead Director; Alberto Ibarguen, AMR Director; George Burgess, Miami-Dade County Manager; and CEO Gerard Arpey. "We're proud of what we have built in Miami with the support from the community's civic and business leadership," said Arpey. "It took the hard work, leadership and vision of Peter Dolara, who has never wavered in his passion for Miami or his belief in its future. I am enormously grateful for his service to our airline, and I'm very pleased and appreciative that they honored him with this prestigious award."

AA Voted Best International Airline in Brazil
Brazil's Viagen E Turismo Magazine recently named American as the best international carrier. Cabin comfort, AA's Portuguese language Web site, dependability, inflight entertainment and meal service were all considered by readers when casting their ballots. "We are indeed proud to have been selected as the best international airline," said Erli Rodrigues, AA's country director in Brazil. "This award recognizes all of the employees in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro that provide quality service every day, as well as that of the crews that serve the Brazilian market with professionalism and pride. It is especially gratifying to know that travelers voted us the best."

American Airlines Cargo Wins an Award
American Airlines Cargo took first place honors in the international and domestic airline categories in the 2007 Express Delivery & Logistics Association's (XLA) Airline of the Year Awards. American was honored with the newly created International Airline of the Year Award. The awards are given exclusively to XLA members.

American Wins Cannes Honors for Television Ads
The American Airlines "Team Building" U.S. television commercial, part of the company's "We Know Why You Fly" campaign, won a Bronze Lion at the prestigious Cannes International Advertising Festival in Cannes, France. This is the world's highest advertising honor, presented at a show held each year soon after the renowned Cannes Film Festival. American was the only airline in the world to win a film Lion this year. Also, American's "New York Minute" spot, featuring James Gandolfini, was named as a finalist. Again, quite an honor, as only four other airlines' ads (TAM, Iberia, Airtran and Interjet) received finalist honors.

Hispanic Bar Association Honors AA Senior Vice President and General Counsel
The Dallas Hispanic Bar Association chose Gary Kennedy, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of American Airlines, to receive the 2008 Corporate Counsel Diversity Award. DHBA honored Kennedy for the efforts that he has made to increase the diversity of professionals within American’s legal department and to implement standards for diversity that he requires outside counsel to meet.

AAdvantage, AA.com Win Marketing Awards
AAdvantage Marketing and AA.com recently won four Excellence in Interactive Marketing(EIMA) awards from the DFW Interactive Marketing Association. AA won Most Effective Online Brand Experience, Most Effective Online Marketing Strategy, Most Effective Use of Search, and Most Effective Customer Acquisition Promotion.

American Airlines Named Best Economy/Coach Class At OAG Airline Industry Awards
American Airlines announced today that it was awarded Best Economy/Coach Class at the 26 th Annual OAG Airline Industry Awards, sponsored by Boeing and held June 4 in London.

The OAG Airline Industry Awards, widely regarded as the industry’s most prestigious award event, celebrate the most highly admired and innovative airlines and airports. The winners are chosen by the votes of frequent business travelers from around the globe.

AA Cargo Division Receives Customer Excellence and Innovation Award
AA Cargo was honored by the Descartes Systems Group with the Customer Excellence and Innovation Award. AA was recognized for its excellence and innovation in the implementation of the Descartes System's global on-demand software-as-a-service (SaaS) logistics solutions provider.

AA's Sterling Honored
Peggy Sterling, Vice President - Safety, Security and Environmental at American Airlines, has been honored by Paul Quinn College with establishment of the American Airlines Peggy Sterling Trustee of the Year Award. The College created the ongoing award to honor Sterling's eight-year tenure on the college's board of trustees and her long-time support of the institution.

Sterling has been recognized as one of the "200 Most Powerful Women in Travel" by Travel Agent Magazine and has been inducted into the New York Academy of Women Achievers. The Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners has honored Sterling with a Women of Achievement Award. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Paul Quinn College in 2004.

DiversityInc Names AA Noteworthy Company
American Airlines was named a Noteworthy Company for Diversity in DiversityInc magazine’s 2008 rankings, adding to a growing list of accolades for American’s industry-leading diversity initiatives. American is the only airline among the 75 top employers on the DiversityInc lists.

American Eagle Airlines and NAS Ad Agency Win Awards
American Eagle and NAS Recruitment Communications were recently awarded "Best in Show" at the Service Industry Advertising Awards (SIAA). NAS won Best in Show for American Eagle’s newspaper recruiting ads. NAS is part of the McCann Worldgroup and is a sister agency of TM – American’s longtime advertising agency of record.

American Recipient of Paul G. Sheridan, S.J. Leadership Award
Boys Hope Girls Hope, a Chicago-based group that is committed to helping at-risk children, recently honored American Airlines with the 2008 Paul G. Sheridan, S.J. Leadership Award for providing opportunity through education by way of its generous assistance. American Wins Two “Cellars In The Sky” Awards
American was honored with two Cellars in the Sky 2007 Awards by Business Traveller Magazine in association with Wine & Spirit Magazine and the International Wine Challenge for carrying the “Best Business Class Wine Cellar” (overall selection) and the “Best Business Class Fortified or Sweet Wine” (La Plaza Vieja, Medium Golden, Emilio Lustau) at the Business Travel Show in London in Feb. 2008.

American Makes HRC's Best Places To Work List
AMR Corporation was among nine Texas-based companies to appear on the 2008 list of Best Places to Work for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Equality compiled by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. To make the list, companies had to score a perfect 100 on the foundation's Corporate Equality Index, which measures policies and practices that promote equality in the workplace.

The December issue of Latin Trade magazine lists AA amongst the Best Employers in 2007.

American Honored For Support of The Arts In Miami
For the second consecutive year, American was recognized for its commitment to the arts at the 2007 Garza Awards in Miami. The awards program was part of an annual fundraiser by Creation Arts Center in support of the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami. It recognized American and Lina Santiago, AA's Sales Promotion Manager for Florida and Puerto Rico. "American Airlines and Lina have been strong supporters of the development of the Ballet as well as a number of cultural institutions in South Florida," said Pedro Pablo Pena, director of the Garza Awards and the International Ballet Festival.

American Airlines Named Best International Airline by Travel Weekly in Readers Choice Awards
American was chosen from a list of five finalists that also included British Airways, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic. Travel Weekly readers voted to select the finalists in this year’s polling, and its readership of travel agents, marketing executives, and travel company CEOs then voted for the nominees in 51 categories.

AFW Maintenance Base Wins Water Treatment Award
Once again the AFW water treatment plant was awarded the Pretreatment Associate Award. The award recognizes American Airlines for full compliance with local, state, and federal water quality regulations. Winning the award is no easy task as AFW treated close to 17 million gallons of water in 2006. AFW's reverse osmosis system also allows the treated water to be re-used for aircraft washing and other maintenance work saving thousands of gallons of water and thousands of dollars.

Forrester Gives AA.com Top Ranking Among Airline Web Sites
AA.com has the best ticket-selling features of any airline Web site, according to a Forrester Research study that ranked Web sites of the 10 largest U.S. airlines. American recently redesigned AA.com to be more user-friendly. "All sites can sell a ticket, but beyond that, many miss the mark," Forrester travel analyst Sarah Rotman Epps said. American's new fare and schedule matrix helped AA.com receive top ranking, Epps said. American has done the best job of any airline at illustrating tradeoffs - such as ticket refundability and change fees - for various fares offered. The site also allows users to book and share itineraries before purchase, and offers callback assistance to online users who need more help.

Latitudes Voted Top Bilingual Magazine in Florida
The Florida Magazine Association recently awarded American Eagle's Latitudes the Silver Award for Best Bilingual Magazine at the 2007 Annual Charlie Awards. The competition includes 75 categories in the areas of General Excellence, Editorial Excellence, Design Excellence and Printing Excellence.

AMR Again Earns Top Score on Corporate Equality Index
American Airlines and American Eagle have been honored again by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) with the highest ranking possible in its 2008 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This is the sixth consecutive year that the company has received a 100 percent score, a record unmatched by any other airline. The CEI rates Fortune 500 and other major companies on key indicators of fair, equitable treatment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees and customers. "Earning a 100 percent score is symbolic of fair-minded companies who demonstrate sensitivity and intention in policies on employment and customer service," said Denise Lynn, Vice President - Diversity and Leadership Strategies.

American Airlines Named Best Airline for Domestic First Class by Global Traveler Magazine
More than 15,800 business and leisure travelers participating in a 2007 Global Traveler magazine readership survey determined for the second consecutive year that American Airlines is the " Best Airline for Domestic First Class. " The honor is from Global Traveler’s annual GT Tested Awards program.

AA Named Best North American Airline By Business Traveller Magazine
For the 15 th consecutive year, American Airlines has been named Best North American Airline by Business Traveller magazine. The honor was presented to American at the magazine’s 2007 Business Traveller Awards ceremony in London. The awards are based on the findings of Business Traveller’s annual readers survey. Its readers represent some of the world’s most discerning, affluent and frequent international business travelers

American Selected as One of Latina Style’s Top 50
American Airlines has been selected as one of LATINA Style's Top 50 companies for Latinas to work for in the United States. The magazine's annual survey serves as the most respected source of employment and career information for Hispanic women. American and the other top companies will also be formally honored in February during LATINA Style's Awards Ceremony & Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., and recognized at an exclusive awards reception at the White House hosted by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao.

FAA Honors American Airlines, American Eagle and TAESL
The Federal Aviation Administration bestowed its highest honor, the Diamond Award for Excellence, on American Airlines, American Eagle and Texas Aero Engine Services Limited (TAESL), an affiliated engine repair facility, for excellence in training their Aviation Maintenance Technicians. At American and TAESL combined, about 7,300 AMTs, or 60 percent, qualified for some level of the award. American Eagle qualified 770 AMTs, or 80 percent. Four American Airlines AMTs qualified for individual Diamond Awards. Station-level Diamond Awards were presented to American for Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, its maintenance bases at Tulsa, Okla., Kansas City, and Alliance-Fort Worth, and for all of line maintenance.

American Airlines Wins Diversity Honors
The dedicated diversity initiatives of American Airlines have resulted in the carrier being named as one of Black Enterprise magazine's 15 Best Companies in Marketing Diversity. The prize was one of several diversity awards received by the airline in recent years. American is the only airline with dedicated sales and marketing teams for different sectors of society, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender consumers, as well as the Hispanic, African-American and Women's markets.

American Honored with Wines on the Wing Awards
American Airlines received accolades from Global Traveler in the magazine's annual "Wines on the Wing" International Business Class Airline Wine Competition. American received first place in the white wine category for J. Wegeler-Erben Riesling Spatlese Bernkasteler Doctor 2004, and second place in red wine for its Chateau Batailley Pauillac 2003. "We take great pride in selecting fine wines for our customers to enjoy inflight and are continuing our efforts to take wine offerings to another level," said Lauri Curtis, Vice President - Onboard Service.

American Eagle's Senior Vice President of Technical Operations David Campbell was featured in Ebony magazines spotlight on individuals who are moving upward and onward.

LULAC Salutes American at National Convention
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) recognized American Airlines during its annual National Convention and Exposition in Chicago. AA's participation, coordinated by Hispanic Sales and Marketing and staffed by employee volunteers of the newly-formed Latin Employee Resource group in Chicago, was the perfect opportunity to interact directly with approximately 10,000 members of the Hispanic community. AA was recognized for its sponsorship of LULAC and for hosting the most lively and entertaining booth at the exhibit. District Sales Manager Kathy Stokes accepted the award on AA's behalf.

Admirals Club Members Name Austin Club Best In Class
Asked which club they considered "Best in Class" for customer service in the second annual customer service survey, Admirals Club members gave the AA's Austin club the highest percentage of votes. The nearly 30 percent of 15,000 members who responded to the survey also provided over 3,000 examples of outstanding experiences during visits to the clubs.

Arpey Named CEO of the Year
CEO of American Airlines, Gerard Arpey, has been named CEO of the Year by DallasCEO Magazine. Arpey will be featured on the cover of the magazine's September issue. A survey was sent to about 6,000 public and private companies, and covered local and national economic issues. Arpey was recognized for his leadership in transforming American, using a Turnaround Plan that focused on streamlining operations, collaborating with employees, improving customer service and building a foundation for financial success.

U.S. Uruguay Chamber Awards "Golden Gaucho" To Dolara
Peter Dolara, Senior Vice President for MCLA, received the U.S. Uruguay Chamber of Commerce's highest award – the "Golden Gaucho" - for his achievements. "This award is not a personal achievement," Dolara said, "but rather the result of the many opportunities that American has offered me throughout the years. American is truly a company with a vision of inclusiveness and with a commitment to diversity."

AMR Honored By Anti-Defamation League
The Anti-Defamation League honored CEO Gerard Arpey and the employees of American and American Eagle in Dallas with the 2007 Henry Cohn Humanitarian Award, citing the company's efforts in promoting diversity in the workplace. Accepting the award, Arpey stated, "Building a workplace that is tolerant, and encourages every one of us to apply our unique skills and perspectives to our collective effort enhances our ability to compete, helps us to understand our customers, and enables us to attract and retain the talented employees we need. The people of American care deeply about our company, and are devoted to our mission – not just to make our company a success, but also our broader mission of helping connect the world."

U.S. Department of Commerce and SBA MED Week 2007 “Million Dollar Roundtable Award”
American Airlines Purchasing Department Commodity Managers who negotiated contracts for $1 million were honored at the Million Dollar Roundtable Breakfast in August.

Minority Business News , “MCompany Award Executive Leadership Award”
John MacLean, VP Purchasing, was recognized for Executive Leadership in Supply Diversity and Inclusion. The award spotlights people and organizations that demonstrate outstanding commitment to supplier diversity and inclusion.

AICCT “2007 Advocate of the Year”
Sherri Macko, Manager Supplier Diversity, was presented this award from the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas.

Based on results from its readers' travel preference survey, Global Finance magazine has named American as Best Airline for North America and Latin America.

Magazine Honors AA-Union Cooperation
Air Transport World magazine named American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union as winners of its Labor Management Relations Award. Its editors praised the company-union effort to avoid outsourcing aircraft maintenance work, maintaining American's own aircraft and securing lucrative third-party contracts. It is only the sixth time in 23 years that the magazine has presented the award.

Garton Named Among 25 Most Influential Executives
Business Travel News named Dan Garton, Executive Vice President - Marketing, among the 25 decision makers perceived as having greatest influence in the business travel industry in 2006.

American Honored by Nicaragua’s Chamber of Tourism

AA Cargo Wins Silver Award At Air Courier Event
For the third consecutive year the Express Delivery and Logistics Association recognized AA Cargo at their annual Airline of the Year awards ceremony. American Airlines was presented the Silver Award as a select air carrier serving the courier segment of the logistics industry. The award was based on a variety of factors including service performance, Web site, communications and technology support.

Aviation Week Announces MRO Award Winners
Aviation Week awards honoring excellence in the aviation industry were announced Tuesday evening during Aviation Week's annual MRO Conference and Exhibition in Atlanta. The event explores the future of aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). One of the Overhaul and Maintenance awards was presented to Bob Reding, AA's Senior Vice President of Technical Operations, and John Conley, Systems Coordinator, American Airlines. American and the Transport Workers Union have worked together to transform the airline's maintenance and engineering organization from a cost center to a profit center.

Brazil Travel Agents Honor AA

AFW Earns Area Environmental Awards
For the eighth year, the City of Fort Worth Water Department presented AFW M&E Maintenance Base with the Pollution Prevention Award. American received the second annual Flight Quiet Recognition Award for its support of the Chicago O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission. The award cites AA’s high utilization of the "ground run-up enclosure" and its adherence to nighttime preferential flight tracks. American Eagle received the Fly Quiet Award in 2002.

SkyTrax "Best North American Airline"
American Airlines was voted as the Best North American Airline in what was billed as the world's largest passenger survey. The survey, conducted by the airline consumer group Skytrax, received 4.4 million nominations from over 80 countries for 140 different airlines. Survey participants rated each airline in various categories such as check-in, lounges, in-flight staff, seating, cabin cleanliness and in-flight entertainment.

ASCI "Most Improved Airline"
American scored the only significant improvement of all domestic airlines in customer satisfaction for service quality and value for the first quarter 2003, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ASCI). The consumer survey of service industries is conducted by the National Quality Research Center at the University Of Michigan Business School. ASCI concluded that customers of American are significantly more likely to fly American again in the future.

The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County's Economic Development Agency presented the first Aviation Industry Beacon Award to American and Peter Dolara, American Airline's Senior Vice President for Miami, the Caribbean and Latin America. This award was presented in recognition of AA's tremendous impact on the local economy in areas such as job creation, business expansion, corporate citizenship and leadership.
