AIRPORT TERMINAL UPGRADES OVERVIEW

To remain competitive and keep up with growth, American has worked with its airport partners on three major projects at key airports – Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

These projects provide passengers with the world-class amenities and services they value and help American offer competitive service at these strategic international gateways.

• Terminal D at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, opened in July 2005, serves as American's international gateway at its largest hub.
• The planning and construction of Terminal D began in 1997 and was the cornerstone of the airport's Capital Development Program which also includes an integrated Grand Hyatt Hotel, the world's largest high-speed airport train, Skylink, along with airfield, roadway and support projects to help maintain the entire airport infrastructure.

The success achieved thus far is a tribute to American's employees. American's dramatic operational improvement is a direct result of its ongoing efforts to restructure its business and the willingness of everyone at American to accept change as an inevitable fact of life in the airline industry. But even though progress has been significant, much work remains. Everyone understands that it is important to continue focusing on finding ways to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently.

• In the summer of 2005, American opened Phase One of the new state-of-art, world-class terminal at JFK Airport, which is designed to make domestic and international travel easier and more convenient for passengers. JFK Airport Terminal – Phase Two was opened in summer of 2007.
  • With more than 90 daily departures from JFK, American and American Eagle currently serve more than 700,000 passengers at the terminals each month.
• The new facility was built at a cost $1.3 billion and covers 1.5 million square feet. It helps strengthen the airport as one of the nation's foremost international gateways and allows American and American Eagle to meet the long-term demand for domestic and international service.

• American is working with Miami Dade County to construct the new North Terminal which will be used by American and its partners and is expected to be completed in 2011. The $2.8 billion terminal expansion project will help solidify Miami's place as a major player for international traffic.
• The North Terminal project evolved in response to American's strategic decision in 1989 to create an international passenger and cargo-connecting hub in Miami that could be used to extend the carrier's presence into the Caribbean and Central/South America.
  • In the years since that decision was made, American's operation in Miami has grown from 20 to 258 flights per day by American and American Eagle; to more than 80 destinations worldwide; and from two million to 21 million annual passengers.
  • American's Miami hub is the nation's No. 1 international gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean.
