American Airlines and Japan Airlines Granted Antitrust Immunity by U.S. Department of Transportation
American Airlines and Japan Airlines received final approval of their joint request for antitrust immunity and plans for a joint business between North America and Asia today. This concludes the regulatory approvals in both the U.S. and Japan.
The airlines plan to launch their joint business in early 2011. The joint business will provide enhanced travel options and experiences for customers of both American Airlines and Japan Airlines including more routing choices, greater schedule integration, expanded codesharing, more fare options, and continued reciprocal frequent flyer benefits.
Customers of the two airlines are already benefitting from American’s code on Japan Airlines new flight from Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport to San Francisco, California, which began October 31, 2010. Japan Airlines customers will benefit from JAL’s code on American Airlines new flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport, which is scheduled to begin January 20, 2011.
