International Network Overview
American Airlines offers nonstop
flights each day to financial capitals and the most important cities across the globe. In recent years, American and its partner, American Eagle, have bolstered an
already vast international network by adding new routes into Asia, including nonstop service from Chicago to Shanghai, China, and Delhi, India; increasing service
from New York, one of the major gateways in the United States, with new service to Milan, Italy, and Barcelona, Spain; and added routes in Latin America, furthering
its position in a region where it offers more flights to more destinations than any other airline.
On June 2, 2008, American launched a major step in growing its international network by offering new service from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Moscow.
This made American the first U.S. airline to fly nonstop to Russia from Chicago and only the second U.S. airline to fly nonstop to Moscow from anywhere in the United
States. The new service represents a milestone for American, marking the first time American has offered a flight to Russia in its 80-year history. In addition, on
Sept. 25, 2007, American was awarded DOT authority to fly a new nonstop route between O'Hare and Beijing, China, effective April 2010.
American has also boosted its international footprint, enabling travelers to reach far into Asia and Europe, by adding new routes and partners via the growing
oneworld® Alliance – of which American is a founding member – all the while further strengthening its position as the leading airline serving
Latin America. At the same time, American, the only U.S. network airline to have avoided bankruptcy since deregulation, has continued its focus on reinvesting in
its products and services with enhanced international inflight service and food and entertainment offerings, while upgrading terminals at its major gateways.
As oneworld begins its second decade, the
alliance and its trans-Atlantic airlines are working on plans to enable them to unlock even more of oneworld's potential with further benefits and services for
travelers. American and its partners anticipate gaining antitrust immunity in the United States, after last year's application for trans-Atlantic antitrust immunity
by American Airlines, British Airways, and Iberia Airlines.
American's international network and those of its partners give travelers a broad offering of more than 800 destinations for AAdvantage® Program frequent flyer
members to earn and redeem miles for travel. The successful launch of service to China and India, new service to Latin America and Moscow, and future service
to Beijing are key elements of an international strategy that continues to solidify American's global presence. For more information regarding where we fly and new and seasonal routes,
