|
American Airlines understands that some severe weather events may cause you to consider changing your travel plans. With this in mind, we offer our Hurricane Protection Policy.
If you are ticketed for travel within the area and dates of a hurricane watch issued by the United States National Hurricane Center, American Airlines will offer you the convenience of the following options (in addition to normal cancellation rules).

Canceling Your Reservation
- If you have a non-refundable ticket, you must cancel your reservation before your first scheduled flight to retain the value of the ticket.
- Refunds can be issued for non-refundable tickets in the form of a travel voucher which must be used within one year of issue.
- If you are traveling using an AAdvantage mileage award, you may request a refund of miles. No reinstatement charge will apply.
- All refund requests must be made no later than 14 days from when the United States National Hurricane Center issues the hurricane watch.
- Normal guidelines for refundable tickets apply.
Rescheduling Your Travel To The Same Destination
- If you would like to reschedule your flight plans to your original destination, you must do so prior to your first scheduled flight.
- Rebooked travel must commence within 7 days from the start of your original travel date, or normal charges will apply. Some inventory requirements may apply.
- If you would like to depart early due to the hurricane watch you may do so with no penalty or change charge. Some inventory requirements may apply.
- If your originating flight in a round trip itinerary is affected, your return flight may be rescheduled for a later date to allow the original length of your stay.
Changing Your Travel To An Alternate Destination
- You may also choose to change your flight plans to travel away from the projected path of the hurricane. This must be done prior to the first date of your travel.
- Any difference in fare will apply, however, you will not be required to pay the normal charge for changing a reservation.
| All ticketing changes with regard to this policy must be made through American Airlines, regardless of where the ticket was purchased. |
American Airlines may issue a more lenient policy regarding changes and cancellations once a storm is imminent. If this occurs, all affected customers will be able to apply the more lenient policy to their changes.
