Upgrade on US Airways at Check-In
Until we integrate our programs, we will introduce the ability for AAdvantage elite status members to upgrade to First Class on US Airways within 24 hours of departure, beginning June 11, 2014. If available, an opportunity to upgrade will be presented at check-in for US Airways-operated flights within and between the U.S. (excluding Hawaii) and Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Bermuda and Central America and will be provided on a first come, first served basis. If a seat is not available, you can also choose to add yourself to the upgrade standby list.

These upgrades are complimentary for elite status members and one companion traveling in the same reservation – just as they are on US Airways today for Dividend Miles elite members.

If available, upgrades will be offered at check-in via usairways.com, US Airways app, US Airways mobile website, self-service kiosk, US Airways airport agent or a US Airways club agent. To secure an upgrade, all travelers in the reservation will need to agree to the upgrade options as presented at check-in. If you are traveling on a mixed itinerary and are checking in with American, but connecting to a US Airways flight, please see a US Airways agent to assist with the upgrade on US Airways.

Additionally, you may now also upgrade on US Airways marketed, American Airlines-operated flights at check-in following the policy outlined above. Please refer to our FAQs for more information.

First/Envoy (Business) Class Check-In, Security and Boarding
Enjoy a fast and convenient airport experience with priority check-in, security lanes and dual-lane boarding.

  • Priority check-in allows you to skip the line and check in at designated Preferred ticket counters. In airports where none are available, check in at one of our First Class counters (within the U.S. or to Bermuda, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean) or at our Envoy Class counters for travel to/from Europe, South America and the Middle East.
  • Priority security lanes let you sail through security and get to your gate even faster. Just show your AAdvantage elite status membership card, a valid form of I.D. and your boarding pass at our Priority Security Lanes at participating airports. You can even bring your travel companions along with you.
  • Priority dual-lane boarding, available at over 60 airports, allows you to be seated faster and get first dibs on overhead bin space. Directly after our uniformed U.S. military and First/Business Class customers, our Executive Platinum (oneworld Emerald) members will board, followed by our Platinum (oneworld Sapphire) and Gold (oneworld Ruby) members, and then all other Priority customers. You'll be called to board by your oneworld tier as opposed to your AAdvantage elite status level. Rather than wait for a specific zone, you can skip the line even if you get to the gate late.

Priority Baggage Delivery
Executive Platinum and Platinum member bags will be loaded last which means they'll be among the first on the conveyer belt when you arrive at your destination.

Move Up Fee Waiver

*For tickets issued on or after April 23, 2014, for travel on or after that date, Platinum members traveling on US Airways operated flights are eligible for two free checked bags; for tickets issued prior to April 23, 2014, Platinum members are eligible for three free checked bags.
