Preferred Seats Terms and Conditions
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra are only available on flights operated and marketed by American Airlines and American Eagle
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra will be available for sale on select flights 331 days prior to departure through the check-in window to non-elite customers1 through AA Reservations, Airport Self Service Machines, AA.com and Travel Agencies using the AA Direct Connect product
- Preferred Seats, Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Plus Seats will be offered at no charge to Elite2 customers
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra will be offered at no charge to customers traveling on a full coach fare
- Preferred Seats will be offered at no charge to customers traveling on a B fare
- Preferred Seats will be offered at no charge to active duty military and their family members traveling on the same reservation. Note: Applicable to purchases through AA.com, AA.com mobile, Self-Service Check-In machines, and AA Reservations only. Not applicable to reservations booked with a travel agency.
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra will be offered at no charge to customers traveling on AAdvantage AAnytime® Award tickets
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra cannot be purchased by customers traveling on AAdvantage MileSAAver® Award tickets
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra are purchased per passenger and per flight
- When a previously ticketed customer seeks to purchase a Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra, the Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra must be purchased at the time of the seat selection
- When a reservation/booking goes unticketed and is cancelled the associated Preferred Seat and or Main Cabin Extra will also be cancelled.
- When a Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra is added to the PNR after ticketing and is not paid for at the time of seat selection it will be cancelled.
- Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats are non-transferable and are only valid for the flight purchased
- Passengers that have purchased a Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra will not receive a refund if the price decreases, nor will there be an additional charge if the price increases. Preferred seat purchases are final and are not subject to increases or decreases
- Refunds of Preferred Seats and or Main Cabin Extra will be made to the original form of payment. Purchases made in cash will be refunded via check
- Customers who voluntarily cancel, or change their flight, itinerary, or cabin, will receive a refund through an automated process for the Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra purchase unless they change to another main cabin seat on the original flight
- Customers and their companions who purchase a Main Cabin Extra or a Preferred Seat and subsequently achieve Elite status can request a refund at www.aa.com/refunds
- Customers who have purchased a Preferred Seat and or Main Cabin Extra and elect to change to a non-Preferred Seat on the same flight will not be entitled to a refund of the original Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra purchase
- Customers who purchased a Preferred Seat and or Main Cabin Extra that are impacted by an American Airlines initiated flight and seat change, equipment change, routing change, or flight cancellation are eligible for a refund. The refund will be automatically initiated by American Airlines on the customer's behalf
- During times of peak demand and/or operational necessity American Airlines may opt to inhibit/discontinue the sale of Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra
- Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra are subject to American Airlines minimum check in times. Preferred Seats and Main Cabin Extra are subject to cancellation unless you have checked in (obtained a boarding pass) at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure. You must be present at the departure gate and ready to board at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure time to retain your reservation and Preferred Seat
- American Airlines expressly reserves the right in its absolute discretion to discontinue Preferred Seats and or Main Cabin Extra at any time or to refuse to sell a Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra to any specific passenger, or if sold to cancel a Preferred Seat and refund the purchase price. American Airlines will not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by a purchaser resulting from such refusal, cancellation, or denial
- American Airlines reserves the right to remove any customer who has purchased a Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra for inappropriate behavior, including, but not limited to, conduct that is disruptive, abusive or violent
- American Airlines reserves the right to move any customer who has purchased a Preferred Seat or Main Cabin Extra from any seat for operational or security reasons. This includes customers who do not meet exit row eligibility requirements. The customer may request a refund of the Preferred Seat at www.aa.com/refunds
- Valid Carriers: A portion or all travel booked on American Airlines may be operated by American Eagle or the AmericanConnection® carrier. American Eagle is operated by American Eagle Airlines, Inc., or Executive Airlines, Inc., which are wholly owned by AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines. AmericanConnection service is operated by independent contractor Chautauqua Airlines, Inc. American Eagle and AmericanConnection are registered trademarks of American Airlines, Inc.
- American Airlines reserves the right to move any customer who has purchased a Preferred Seat from any seat for operational or security reasons. This includes customers who do not meet exit row eligibility requirements. The customer may request a refund of the Preferred Seat at www.aa.com/refunds
- Non-Elite passengers are defined as - Not AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum®, AAdvantage Gold®, AAirpass® or ConciergeKeySM. Not booked in Y or B inventory, and not traveling on a military fare
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum, AAdvantage Gold, AAirpass, oneworld® Emerald, Sapphire, and Ruby and Alaska Airlines Top Tiers MVP, Gold and Gold75 customers
