Refunds in the Event of Oversales
Optional products and services are eligible for refunds if you are unable to use the product or service due to either voluntary or involuntary denied boarding caused by an oversold flight. If the product and/or service was provided on an alternate flight, a refund is not available.

Optional products and services impacted include:
  • Group 1 Boarding
  • Checked bag charge
  • Confirmed Flight Change
  • Baggage fees and charges(including excess baggage, pets, sports, hunting equipment, etc.)

Baggage Charge Refunds
Request a baggage charge refund at the ticket counter before leaving the airport or visit Refunds.

American Airlines Vacation Package Refunds
Travel plans changed? Please contact us to cancel your vacation package reservations prior to travel:

AAdvantage Award Travel Mileage Reinstatement
If your AAdvantage award ticked is unused and has not expired, you can request your AAdvantage mileage to be reinstated. Partially used tickets and miles that would have expired will not be reinstated.

To reinstate, there is a $150 processing charge per account for the first award, and a $25 charge per additional awards reinstated to the same account at the same time.

If you have an electronic ticket, please call 800-882-8880 to cancel your reservation and request your AAdvantage mileage reinstatement.
If you have a paper ticket, please call 800-882-8880 to cancel your reservation and mail your paper ticket and reinstatement request to:
