With Main Cabin Extra you get a seat in the front of the Main Cabin with up to six inches of additional legroom to stretch out and relax. You also receive Group 1 boarding which gives you plenty of time to get on the plane, stow your luggage and get settled with prices starting at $8.

You can also select a Main Cabin Extra seat when you book a new reservation. Simply look for the Main Cabin Extra icon when you select your seats. |

Complimentary Access
AAdvantage® Executive Platinum and AAdvantage® Platinum members receive complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra seats.
To celebrate the launch of this new seating product, we are offering our AAdvantage® Gold and oneworld® Ruby members complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra seats through December 31, 2013.
oneworld Emerald and Sapphire, and customers who have purchased a full-fare Main Cabin ticket receive advance complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra seats.
Preferred Seats continue to be complimentary for all of our AAdvantage elite status customers and their oneworld equivalents*, as well as customers who have purchased a full-fare Main Cabin ticket. Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats can be selected at the time of booking up until check-in.

Q: When can I purchase these seats?
A: Main Cabin Extra is now available on nearly all American flights. You can purchase these seats when you book your flight or any time up to the flight check-in cutoff. Prices start at $8.
Q: What is the difference between standard Main Cabin seats and Main Cabin Extra seats?
A: Main Cabin Extra will offer you up to six inches more leg room than a standard Main Cabin seat, Group 1 boarding and a front of the cabin location.
Q: If I purchase a Main Cabin Extra seat, do I get priority boarding privileges as well?
A: Yes, Main Cabin Extra seats include Group 1 boarding privileges.
Q: Where can I purchase the new seating product?
A: You can reserve these seats using AA.com (booking, My Trips and check-in), at the airport (SSM), on your mobile device with an on-file credit card, AA Reservations and through travel agencies that use AA's Direct Connect.
Q: How will I find these seats when I am booking my flight on AA.com?
A: When you select a seat, look for the Main Cabin Extra icon in blue.
Q: How does Main Cabin Extra differ from the Preferred Seats program?
A: Main Cabin Extra seats are located in the front of the Main Cabin and include additional leg room and priority early boarding privileges. Preferred Seats are standard legroom seats, more favorably located in the Main Cabin.
Q: Haven't I been receiving more legroom in a Preferred Seat?
A: You may have experienced more legroom in a seat marketed as a Preferred Seat. Until an entire aircraft type was completely upgraded with Main Cabin Extra, American was offering these seats with more legroom, as Preferred Seats.
Q: How will this program impact my upgrades from Main Cabin to Business Class cabins?
A: We will retain our current Main Cabin to Business Class upgrade policies. Main Cabin Extra is part of the Main Cabin, not a separate cabin.
Q: Can I purchase the new seat product if I am traveling on an AAdvantage MileSAAver Award ticket or Business Extra PlanAAhead ticket?
A: Elite status members may select Main Cabin Extra seats when traveling on MileSAAver or PlanAAhead Award tickets. However, Main Cabin Extra is not available for purchase by non-elite customers traveling on MileSAAver or PlanAAhead Award tickets.
Q: Can I purchase a Main Cabin Extra seat if I am traveling on an AAdvantage AAnytime Award ticket or a Business ExtrAA Anytime Award?
A: Yes. Main Cabin Extra is complimentary to passengers traveling on AAnytime Award tickets.
