Checked Baggage Allowance
You may check in the following at the check-in counter for travel in the hold of aircraft:
Economy
- One checked bag free of charge - maximum 23kgs / 50lbs
- One second bag for a fee of $60 - maximum 23kgs / 50lbs
The total dimensions of each checked bag may not exceed 62in / 157cm each (length + width + height).
The $60 fee doesn't apply to customers travelling on a full fare economy ticket booked on Y class.

Two checked bags free of charge - maximum 23kgs / 50lbs each.
Attention First and Business Class Customers
We are pleased to offer customers in First and Business Class the ability to check three bags at no charge when travelling on American Airlines or connecting with British Airways or Iberia.
The total dimensions of each checked bag may not exceed 62in / 157cm (length + width + height) for all customers.
Some type of items can be checked in in addition to the two baggage allowance at no extra fee. View list of additional free checked-in items.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance
You may bring the following onto the airplane:
- One carry-on bag. Total dimensions may not exceed 45in / 114cm (length + width + height). Length shall not exceed 22in / 56cm, width shall not exceed 14in / 35cm and height shall not exceed 9in / 23cm. The bag must fit in the baggage frames located throughout the check-in area at the airport. A garment bag that fits in the baggage frame will count as your one carry-on bag
- One personal item, such as purse, briefcase, laptop bag or a similar item such as book bag or shopping bag. Total dimensions may not exceed 36in / 91cm (length + width + height)
Some type of items can be carried on in addition to the carry-on allowance at no extra fee.

Restrictions On The Transportation Of Liquids In The Cabin
1. Before Going Through Security
If you are travelling to the U.S. from any airport in the European Union* (E.U.) or Switzerland, please be aware of the following restrictions regarding the carrying of liquids and gels onboard the aircraft.
* European Union (E.U.) countries include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
All liquids must be presented in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100ml each.
The containers must be packed in a single transparent re-sealable plastic bag that does not exceed 8in x 8in / 20cm x 20cm (equivalent to 1ltr capacity) per passenger, and submitted separately for inspection at security.
All liquids, gels and aerosols in containers larger than the above must be packed in checked baggage.
Exception: the following liquids can exceed 100ml in hand luggage
- Baby formula, breast milk, or juice
- Prescribed medicine. The label must match the name on your ticket
- Insulin and other essential non-prescribed medicines
Please note that all the following are considered as liquids:
- Water and other drinks, soups, syrups
- Creams, lotions and oils
- Perfumes
- Sprays
- Gels, including hair and shower gels
- Contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foams and deodorants
- Pastes, including toothpaste
- Liquid-solid mixtures
- Mascara
- Any other item of similar consistency
2. Airside Or Onboard Purchases At European Airports
Additional restrictions apply when travelling from or connecting through the following countries:
Switzerland
All liquids / gels / aerosols purchased at an airside shop at London Heathrow or Manchester Airport are accepted onboard, including those measuring more than 100ml. The items must be carried in a sealed, transparent bag. The receipt must be kept.
For passengers connecting through London Heathrow or Manchester airport, only liquids / gels / aerosols measuring 100ml or less will be accepted onboard the connecting flight. The items must be carried in a sealed, transparent bag. The receipt must be kept.
Items over 100ml will be confiscated at the security checkpoint, including those purchased at another airport or onboard the incoming flight.
United Kingdom
All liquids / gels / aerosols purchased at an airside shop at London Heathrow or Manchester Airport are accepted onboard, including those measuring more than 100ml. The items must be carried in a sealed, transparent bag. The receipt must be kept.
For passengers connecting through London Heathrow or Manchester airport, only liquids / gels / aerosols measuring 100ml or less will be accepted onboard the connecting flight. The items must be carried in a sealed, transparent bag. The receipt must be kept.

3. Important Recommendation When Connecting In The United States
If your travel includes a connection in the United States, only liquids / gels / aerosols measuring 100ml or less will be accepted onboard the connecting flight. The items must be carried in a sealed, transparent bag. The receipt must be kept.
Items over 100ml will be confiscated at the security checkpoint, including those purchased at another airport or onboard the incoming flight.

Child Baggage Allowance
The checked and carry-on baggage allowance for children is the same as an adult, regardless of whether they are travelling on an adult or a child fare.
Infant Baggage Allowance
- Infants occupying a seat travelling on a child fare are allowed the same checked and carry-on baggage allowance as an adult
- Infants not occupying a seat paying 10% of an adult fare are allowed one piece of checked baggage not exceeding 23kgs / 50lbs.
Length shall not exceed 22in / 56cm, width shall not exceed 14in / 35cm and height shall not exceed 9in / 23cm
Additional Items
The following items are allowed for each child / infant regardless of the fare purchased:
- One nappy bag as carry-on
- One checked fully collapsible child stroller / pushchair or child carrier to check-in. The child carrier can be taken in place of a pushchair,
but not in addition to a pushchair
- Child safety seats and fully collapsible pushchairs can be taken to the gate. Large pushchairs, non-collapsible or weighting over 20lbs/ 9kgs will not be accepted at the gate and will need to be checked in at the check-in counter
- Child carrier can be carry-on if within 22in / 56cm in length, 14in / 35cm in width and 9in / 23cm in height
- One child's restraint seat

Excess Baggage
- A maximum of 8 additional bags can be checked in on top of the 2 baggage allowance (and 7 bags on top of the three bags allowed for First and Business Class customers) at a fee of $150 per bag
- Any relevant overweight / oversize charges will need to be added to the excess bag fee
- Additional carry-on items are not allowed

- Up to 23kgs / 50lbs or less: no overweight fee
- Between 23kgs / 50lbs and 32kgs / 70lbs: $60 per bag
- Over 32kgs / 70lbs: cannot be checked-in. Contact American Airlines cargo
Any relevant excess / oversize charges will need to be added to the overweight fee.
Carry-On
There is no weight limit for carry-on baggage, including personal items.

Oversize Bags
Checked
- Up to 62in / 157cm (length + width + height): no oversize fee
- Between 63 - 126in / 158 - 320cm (length + width + height): $150 per bag
- Over 126in / 320cm (length + width + height): not allowed. Contact American Airlines cargo
Any relevant excess / overweight charges will need to be added to the oversize fee.

Connecting From / To Another Airline
- If your ticket includes flights on other airlines, you must contact each airline individually to check the applicable baggage allowance / fees on their flight
- If you are connecting to / from an American Airlines flight to another airline, please note that the most restrictive baggage allowance of the two will apply to the entire journey
Exception
If your connection is on an oneworld alliance airline, and your transatlantic travel is on American Airlines, the American Airlines baggage allowance applies to the entire journey.
