Q. What is Online Check-In?
A. Online Check-In is a service that allows American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection®, Iberia, British Airways and Japan Airlines customers to check in for a flight from home, the office or anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Q. When can I check in?
A. This service is available 24 hours and up to 2 hours before the flight departure time. The first flight in your booking must be with American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection, Iberia, British Airways or Japan Airlines.

Q. When can I not check in?
A. If:
- Your first flight is not operated by American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection, Iberia, British Airways or Japan Airlines
- You are travelling on a military fare
- You are travelling with a pet
- You are travelling with an oxygen container
- You are travelling with an infant not occupying a seat

Q. Can I check in for my return flight at the same time
as my outbound flight?

A. Yes, but your return flight has to be within 24 hours of your departure.

Q. Can I check in if I have connecting flights?
A. Yes, when your connecting flight is an American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection operated flight, you will be able to check in and get a boarding pass for each flight.

Q. What if I'm connecting to another airline?
A. You can check in when your connecting flight is on another airline, as long as we have an e-ticketing agreement with that carrier

Q. Why was I asked to enter my passport number and expiration date twice?
A. You will be asked to verify your passport number and expiration date
for security purposes.

Q. Why am I required to provide infant information when I check in?
A. We gather this information to have an accurate record of all passengers
onboard the aircraft

Q. Where do I drop off my luggage after checking in online?
A. At the airport, proceed to the designated American Airlines Bag Drop desks located at the check-in area.

Q. What happens if I have excess luggage?
A. Fees for excess luggage cannot be paid online.At the airport, proceed to the designated American Airlines Bag Drop desks located at the check-in area to pay the excess
baggage fee.

Q. Can I go straight to the gate if I have no luggage to check-in?
A. Yes, you will be able to go straight to the gate after clearing security.

Q. Do I need to print my boarding pass?
A. Yes, you will need to present your boarding pass to airport security.

Q. What should I do if I've checked in but I've lost my boarding pass?
A. To re-print your boarding pass, visit a Self-Service Check-In machine when you arrive at the airport or see an American Airlines member of staff.

Q. Can I change my reservations online once I've checked in?
A. No. Please contact the American Airlines Reservations Centre at

Q. Can I complete the Online Check-In process for everyone in my party at the same time?
A. Yes, as long as you have everybody's passport details.

Q. What if I check in online and can't make my flight?
A. If you are unable to make your flights, please contact American Airlines at
+41-(0)44-654-5256 prior to flight departure. Charges or penalties may apply for changes, depending on the fare paid for your ticket.

Q. When do I need to provide my U.S. Resident card information?
A. If you have indicated that your passport is not issued by the United States, but you are a legal resident and hold a Resident Card (green card) then you need to show
proof of residency.

Q. What is a Mobile Boarding Pass?
A. A paperless boarding option which can be sent directly to your mobile.

Q. Can my mobile phone receive a Mobile Boarding Pass?
A. You need to have an internet enabled phone with the ability to receive emails and display images.

Q. How do I retrieve my Mobile Boarding Pass?
A. Retrieve the email sent to your mobile phone when you completed the online check in process and open the onscreen barcode.

Q. Can I use mobile boarding if my booking contains more than one person?
A. If there is more than one person in your booking this option will not be available to you. But you still have the option to print your boarding pass.

Q. What happens if I cannot retrieve my Mobile Boarding Pass at the airport?
A. You can use the airport Self-Service Check-In machines to print a copy or speak to an American Airlines member of staff.
