American Airlines proudly sponsors Paula Martí and the Madrid Ladies Masters ‘09 which will take place this year on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October at Club de Golf Retamares, this is just a sign for our bid to golf.

As a part of this agreement, we asked Paula a few questions that might be of your interest, do not miss her words throughout the interview below:

How did you prepare the new season?

Training a lot as usual. Normally I spend from 5 to 6 hours at the practice area and 2 hours of physical preparation a day.

What are your objectives for this season?

I’ll try again to finish between the top 10 in the Ladies European Tour circuit. Last year I finished 8th and if I’d do better that’d be fantastic.

What tournament would you like to win and why?

Honestly, I do not have a favourite one, what’s most important is to feel good at everyone of them and most likely, with a good pitch and a bit of luck the results end up coming. The British Open is the one I’d like to win some day the most and in Spain, the Madrid Ladies Masters, a tournament to which I feel something special.

Which are your favourite destinations in the United States ?

For pleasure my two favourite cities are New York and San Francisco. They are the most cosmopolitan ones and the closest to us. When you browse their streets you feel like home, they’re so European and extremely beautiful that you fall in love with them.

For business, without a doubt, Arizona. The US has a lot of golf courses and they take good care of the majority of them, it’s so good. But I would emphasize the ones in Arizona

What places of interest for a golf player are in the United States?

There are plenty. As previously said there are many golf courses. Maybe for an European thinking of the closest and most comfortable point the state of Florida is ideal. Generally any state but the ones in the interior, which are in its majority very dry.

Why did you choose golf?

It’s a parental thing. Since I was little they enrolled me to group lessons and I slowly found out I was actually enjoying it.

What does golf mean to you?

Golf means a lot to me. It’s a passion I feel and the thing I like to do the most. It goes further than hitting a ball. I’ve been so fortunate to have the opportunity to dedicate the majority of my time to it.

One dream: To win the British Open

A place to go on holidays: Formentera

Things you do before and after a tournament: Take a rest in the hotel and concentrate to play.

Your best moment playing golf: Lifting a trophy.

Your favourite course: Turnberry

Someone you admire: Severiano Ballesteros
