Explanation of Storm Policy

During periods of actual or predicted adverse weather, AA may make a policy exception to allow ticketed passengers, whose flights have not been cancelled, to make changes or apply for a refund without paying fees.
  • The Storm Policy allows the ticket to be changed with no change fee.
  • The Storm Policy allows only one ticketed change per ticket.
  • AAdvantage tickets are covered by Storm Policy. All changes to AAdvantage tickets require contacting AA Reservations. (See link below for contact details).

What Travel Agents May Do

Under Storm Policy exceptions, travel agencies may handle the rebooking of alternate AA flights if they follow the storm-specific guidelines. AA must reissue the ticket.

If the travel agency is changing the reservation, the PNR must be documented with an OSI containing the words "Storm Policy" and the name of the storm/event.

Example:    OSI AA Storm Policy - Hurricane Isabel

Important Notes:
  • Agencies that re-issue these tickets are subject to a debit memo. The agency may only re-book the reservation using Storm Policy. AA must do the actual re-issue of the ticket.

  • If the customer's flight has already been cancelled, normal reaccomodation procedures apply i.e. agencies may reissue the ticket provided that there is no change to the dates, origination and destination cities, fare, or fare basis. For further information on American Airline's reaccomodation procedures and reissuing tickets please contact American Airlines reservations.(See link below).

  • Travel Agencies are never allowed to refund a non-refundable ticket.

Some hotels in the Turks and Caicos, including those In Providenciales, have stopped accepting new guests with hotel reservations because of approaching Hurricane Ike. The government of Turks and Caicos is discouraging all non-residents from entering the islands until Hurricane Ike has passed. American Airlines recommends that you check with your specific hotel to verify that they will accept you upon arrival because flights are full through the weekend. If your hotel is unable to accommodate you, it will be difficult to secure a flight out of Providenciales before the hurricane arrives.
