Where do I go once I've arrived at the airport?
Once you've arrived at Rome Fiumicino airport, follow the marked signs on how to connect which will lead you to the correct terminal for your onward flight.
What happens if I do not have a boarding pass?
If you are connecting onto an American Airlines flight and you do not have a boarding pass please see an American Airlines representative at the boarding gate.
Do I have to pick up my luggage or check in again?
If your bags were labelled to your final destination at check-in and you have a boarding pass for your onward flight then your luggage will be taken care of.
How do I get between Terminals?
Terminal 1, 2 and 3 are within walking distance. A shuttle service connects all Terminals to Terminal 5 every 20 minutes, from 5 am to 6pm.
Customers arriving by plane at Rome Fiumicino and connecting onto one of our flights need to follow the signs for 'transit', as long as their checked baggage was tagged to their final destination. If the baggage is not tagged to the final destination, collect your baggage and catch the shuttle to Terminal 5. Check-in closes 1 hour before standard departure time.
Please note that American Airlines flights land at Terminal 3.
When travelling to the airport, please allow yourself plenty of time. To help you on your way we have some travel suggestions below, but please check with the relevant operator before setting off to ensure you have the most up to date information.
Bus
To and from Fiumicino Airport you have several bus service options that link locations around Rome and beyond.
The Cotral bus service connects each terminal to Tiburtina railway station in central Rome, stopping at Piazza dei Cinquecento in front of Roma Termini railway station on the way. The tickets can be bought directly on the bus.
Other Cotral buses link each terminal to Cornelia Station on Rome's underground Line A, and Eur-Magliana Station on Line B.
Cotral bus stops are clearly signed in every terminal at Fiumicino airport.
Licensed taxis are available outside all arrival terminals at Fiumicino Airport. It takes about 1 hour to get to/from central Rome.
Train
A train service connects the airport and Termini Station in central Rome. The Leonardo Express direct train runs every 30 minutes. Airport trains arrive and depart from Binario (platform) 28 at Termini Station. Allow at least an hour to travel between Termini Station and the airport on your return. Airport trains leave Termini Station hourly at 22 minutes and 52 minutes past the hour. The airport train station is located opposite Terminal 3. Follow the signs to get to your Terminal.
At the end of the platform where Leonardo Express and Fr1 regional trains arrive at the airport, go straight ahead to the footbridge and follow the signs to Terminal 3 departure level, where you can catch the Shuttle Express to Terminal 5.
