| Beach Bumming Down Under |

ここ数年の大晦日は雪山で過ごしていたということもあり、2008年のニュー・イヤーズ・イブはちょっとペースを変えて、暖かいシドニーで過ごして来ました。南半球にあるので今の時期は北半球で言う“真夏”のオーストラリア、シドニーの気温は毎日22-25度ほどで晴れの毎日はとても過ごしやすかったです。日焼けも、ちょっぴりしました。
シドニーの大晦日と言えば、あのハーバー・ブリッジを中心とした大花火大会が有名ですよね。元旦のニュースでは必ず取り上げられるほど世界的にも有名なイベント。今回のテーマは「クリエーション」という事で“原点に戻り、それをふまえて前へ進もう”というインスピレーションだったそうです。10万発もの花火が打ち上げられ、世界から100万人が集まったとか。凄い。花火のドーンと言う音と振動を体で感じながら“ハッピー・ニュー・イヤー！”と叫ぶ、気持ち良さそうですね。寒さも気にしなくて良いし、嬉しい。
私の今回のシドニーの旅は、そんなハーバーから車で30分、人気のボンダイ・ビーチで過ごしてきました。ビーチで開催された音楽フェスティバルで年を越し、大好きなアンダーワールドのライブでカウントダウン。年末年始はローカルに加え、私のように休暇を楽しむ観光客でいっぱいでした。超カッコいいライフセーバー達に守られながら青い海で泳ぎ、さらさら砂の上で体を休める、極楽気分でした。

ビーチ沿いやメイン・ストリートにはテラス付きのレストランが沢山並んでいるので、気分が向いたお店に入るのも良いし、オーストラリアの人はとてもフレンドリーなので、ローカルの人におススメのお店を教えてもらうのも良いアイデアです。私がローカルの人に薦められたのはビーチの北側にあるイタリアン・レストラン「ノース・ボンダイ・イタリアン・フード」。とても分かりやすい名前のお店ですが、その通り本格的なイタリアン・レストランです。シンプル・モダンなインテリアにシックなウッド調のテラスからの景色はボンダイ・ビーチ！リゾート気分100%味わえます。ランチも人気ですが、バーで夕日を観ながらカクテルを楽しむのもグッドです。

ビーチも良いけど、ショッピングもしたいならボンダイ・ジャンクションのモールが楽しい。東京には海外のような大きなモールはないので、海外のモールに入るとワクワクします。そしてブティックやセレクト・ショップが並ぶオクスフォード・ストリートをブラブラするのもおすすめです。オリジナル・ブランドや、最近世界でも注目されるオーストラリア・デザイナーのお店もあります。
大胆、でもフェミニンなデザインが特徴の「サス＆バイド」も要チェックです。ここの店員さんに薦めていただいたカフェ「ジャッキーズ・カフェ」も気に入りました。ここもまたウッド調のテラス・エリアに大きな窓が印象的なカフェ。モダンな寿司バーもあります。オリジナル・メニューには手作りカボチャ・ラビオリやお刺身サラダなど、ヒネリがあって面白いです。

もう一つローカルの人に教えてもらったのが、シドニー中心から車で約一時間のニューポートにあるニューポート・アームス。シドニー近郊でもっとも広いウォーターフロント・ビア・ガーデンで、眺めは最高です。クーリンガイ国立公園の自然をバックに、湖には白い帆を張ったヨットがプカプカ浮かぶ、息をのむ景色です。それを眺めながらアウトドアのテーブルで食事するのも良いし、夜は最上階にあるレストラン「テラス・オン・ピットウォーター」でリッチなディナーも楽しめます。メニューはモダン・オーストラリアンですが、ここの和牛ビーフは絶品でした！

と今回はシドニーの中心からちょっと離れた旅でしたが、ブッシュ・カントリーをドライブも出来た、新たなシドニーを体験できました。
Celebrating New Year's Eve means a lot to me. Sure, it's a big event for most people who consider December 31st as the last of the year but I personally like the feeling of being together, feeling connected with the rest of the world to celebrate the new year ahead. I've spent the last few New Years with friends in the snowy mountains and had a blast but this time, I decided to go down to warm Australia where they party it up big time!
The Sydney Harbor New Year's Eve fireworks are known around the world. I'm sure many have seen coverage about it on the news the next day watching the Harbor Bridge shoot out fireworks like a peacock's tail on fire. This year the theme was "Creation", to take it back to the beginning to where it all began. Create they did! Over a million people gathered to watch 100,000 fireworks light up the night sky, pretty amazing.
This trip I spent most of my trip on Sydney's popular Bondi Beach. New Year's Eve on Bondi consisted of celebrating with the late night revelers under a star lit sky and counting down with Underworld performing on an outdoor stage. The other days I spent soaking up the sun while watching the hot lifesavers and taking a dip in the deep blue sea…loved it! Bondi Beach to me is a blend of bohemian and cosmopolitan which attracts a great mix of Sydneysiders and tourist from all corners of the Earth. I could spend the day taking a stroll down the main street or just watching the beautiful people go by from the many terrace cafes or restaurants that line the beach.

There’s a good selection of places to have lunch or dinner so I decided to ask a few friendly locals on where to go. I was referred to a popular Italian restaurant on North Bondi called The North Bondi Italian Food. The name pretty much says it all, except it doesn’t mention the great view of Bondi Beach from the terrace and the beautiful people it attracts. Best to be there around sunset and enjoy cocktails around the bar.

I also took a trip to Bondi Junction and spent a good amount of time at the mall. It's not always that I get to go to a huge mall like this in Japan so I found myself all excited like a the first time I went to a mall as a teenager. Oh, so many memories!
I had a chance to stroll though Oxford Street known for the little boutiques and found Sass & Bide, one of the most talked about Aussie labels. Innovative styles that come across dynamic yet really feminine, all the items have something unique about them. They have such a nice selection of denim too that I had to buy one to add to my jeans collection. One of the sales woman recommended eating at Jackie's Café around the corner. A very intimate café restaurant with big iron gates for doors that opens into a little courtyard and a sushi bar. The atmosphere is very sunny with a modern caf? menu that mixes Italian and Japanese. The pumpkin ravioli was yummy.

I did take a half-day trip outside of main Sydney to Newport Arms in Newport by Pittwater. One of the biggest waterfront beer gardens in Australia with a perfect view of Pittwater and Ku-Ring Gai National Park. On upper floor is Terrace on Pittwater. An exquisite restaurant designed to face the beautiful Pittwater view while enjoying modern Australian cuisine. Staff were friendly and explained the menu in great detail. Though a Japanese in Australia, I ordered the Wagyu beef steak, which came highly recommended and was far from disappointed. Indeed a wonderful dining experience.

新年明けましておめでとうございます！2009年、良いスタートを切っていますか？
この時期になると抱負や新たな目標をたてる人は多いと思いますが、気持ちもリセットして今年も良い年にして行きましょう！ウシのように（？）力強く、旅いっぱい、思い出いっぱいの一年にしていきたい、それが私の目標です。
一年始まったばかりですが、来月早々にグラミー賞授賞式が行われます。音楽業界において最も栄誉のある賞、音楽業界で働く私は毎年この賞をチェックしています。世界の音楽トレンドの流れを知る事が出来る上、トップ・クラスのアーティストのパフォーマンスを楽しめる最高のショー、楽しみですね。授賞式は今年も“天使の街”ロス・アンジェルスで開催。ハリウッド・スター、有名ミュージシャンの住むこの街はこれから2月にかけてセレブ目撃率が高まりそうですね。街はいっそうキラキラとグラマラスになるでしょうね。
ロスといえば、昨年末（12/20～25）になりますが、難病と闘う子供たちの夢の実現を支援するボランティア団体「メイク・ア・ウィッシュ・オブ・ジャパン」とアメリカン航空の協力による、初の日本版WishFlightで富山県在住の、難病と闘う千代想（せんだい・おもい）くんが、「米国アナハイムのディズニーランドへ行きたい」という夢を実現してきた場所でもあります。とても素晴らしい体験ができて、想くんも大喜びだったと聞いて、私もうれしく思いました。今回はそんな「夢」のつまったロス・アンジェルスについてご紹介したいと思います！
私が最後にロスを訪れたのは去年の6月でした。新人バンドのライブをチェックし、また「バッド・デイ」でヒットを記録したダニエル・パウターのインタビューなど、主に仕事のための旅でした。カナダ出身のダニエル・パウター、数年前からロスに移ったそうで、その日焼けした肌からはすっかりロスのライブスタイルに馴染んでいるように見えました。ロス郊外でよくハイキングをするそうで、その途中に新しいリリックや曲のメロディーが浮かぶそうです。環境がこれほど良いと良い曲が生まれるのは当然？ロス・アンジェルスの“バッド・デイ”なんて私には想像できません。

過去４回ほどロスに行っていますが、雨が降った覚えはありません。私をいつも晴れの天気で迎えてくれる街です。観光スポットは沢山ありますが、晴れた日は朝をサンタ・モニカ・ビーチで海やピアで過ごし、お昼はサード・ストリート・プロムナードまで歩き、テラスのあるレストランでランチをするのがおススメ。午後はプロムナードに集まる芸人達のパフォーマンスを観ながらショッピング出来ます。またファッションの街としても注目されるLAにはロデオ・ドライブやメルローズ・アベニューもありますね。トップ・ブランドから個性的なブティックまでファションニスタにはたまらないお店の数々、目をキラキラさせながら歩いてしまいます。

最近はセレクト・ショップも人気で、私は特に「フレッド・シーガル」が好きです。洗練されたカジュアル・ブランドからアクセサリーを扱うお店でジーンズのセレクションも多いです。好きなスタイルや色をスタッフに教えるといろいろもって来てくれます。買い過ぎには注意したい（笑）
その他ビバリー・ブルバードとサード・ストリートにあるロバートソン・ブルバードもヒップ&ファンキーなショッピング・エリアです。ここにはセレブの間にも人気のセレクト・ショップ「キトソン」があります。洋服からアクセサリー、シューズに本まで全てリーズナブルなお値段で購入出来ます。
有名なファーマーズ・マーケットのエリアも素敵で近くにある「ザ・グローブ」のAbercrombie & Fitch、通称“アバクロ”も是非行ってほしいです。暗めのライティングに爆音で流れるダンス・ミュージック、まるでナイトクラブにいる様なお店、入り口にはモデルの様なルックスをもつ男性店員が上半身はだか（！）で迎えてくれます。それに、洋服すべてがコロンの香りがする！という個性的な演出がとてもお洒落です。

ロスにはレストランも沢山ありますが、ファーマーズ・マーケットからそれほど遠くないレストランを、ロスに住む友人に薦めていただきました。ビバリー・ブルバードにあるモダンなステーキ・ハウス「ジャー」。落ち着いたウッド調なデザインにレトロモダンなインテリアにメニューは、ステーキやポットロースと言う本格的なアメリカン。お腹も心もあたたまる料理にカルフォリニア・ワインも楽しめます。これからロス・アンジェルスに行かれる方も是非チェックしてみて下さい。
さ、2009年は始まったばかりです。今年も旅いっぱい、冒険いっぱいの年にしたいです。次回もお楽しみ！
Happy New Year! Hope the year is kicking off to a good start for you. It's a time to rid of the old and in with the new, a time to re-synch not just your clocks and calendars but to recharge the spirit. Let's make it a great year!
The year's just begun but things are already in motion. Just about a month away, the 51st Grammy Awards is going to take place in sunny Los Angeles. Working in the music industry, I'm always curious about who is nominated and who is going to take home that gramophone trophy. It's a great way to see how the trends go and go and without a doubt, I always love to watch all the performances. I bet LA will be buzzing in a few weeks!
Speaking of Los Angeles, last month the non profit organization Make-a-Wish-Foundation Japan and American Airlines teamed up for Japan’s first Wish Grant to fulfill a boy's dream to visit Disneyland in Anaheim. Omoi Sendai of Toyoma Prefecture was flown to Los Angeles on December 20, 2008 and I hear he had a wonderful time at Disneyland! Los Angeles, the city of dreams and magic, where the angels never sleep.
The last time I was in LA was last June. I went on a short trip to check out Panic at the Disco in concert and to interview Daniel Powter, who as you may know, had an international hit with “Bad Day”. I am always elated to be able to interview talented people and I am over the moon when they are so nice and so open. Daniel Powter is one of those artists who make me want to love his music more, a really wonderful guy. Originally from Canada, Daniel Powter relocated to LA a few years ago. Seeing his healthy tan and bright blue eyes, I can see has taken a liking to his new home. He likes to take trips on the outskirt of the city and told me a lot of his musical ideas come to him while out in hiking. I can see anyone would be motivated in a city with so much vibe and so much nature.

The sun always shines in LA. I have been there a couple of times but I've never known it to rain. A great way to spend a sunny day in LA would be to hit Santa Monica Beach for a swim or a stroll on the pier, then head out to the 3rd street Promenade for some nice food and enjoy the street performances while shopping along the promenade. If being seen and seeing those who love to be seen, take a stroll through Rodeo Drive and Melrose Avenue.

I love shopping at Fred Segal with all the casual chic brands and accessory, the wide variety of jeans they carry are very impressive. Shopping around Robertson Blvd is also exciting with all the hip and chic shops. I think I can spend a whole day at Kitson!
Strolling through Farmer's Market and the Grove is another good way to spend the day. Do try going to Abercrombie & Fitch inside The Grove. The “model-like with no shirt on” staff will welcome you at the door and the shop smells like sexy cologne. The dance music blasting throughout makes you feel like you are shopping at he nightclub, fantastic!

There are, like most big cities, restaurants that meet any kind of palette, LA boasts many. The last time I was there, a friend recommended Jar, a modern chophouse restaurant on Beverly Blvd. Designed in retro modern browns and whites, the restaurant has a nice warm atmosphere. The meny is authentic American with steaks and pot roasts on the menu. I had the seasonal wild salmon with creamy spinach. Oh yes, it was very good.
I'll admit, I've only scratched the surface of LA but the year’s just begun and I can't wait to visit again!

| 青空で迎えてくれるマドリード |
|
30代の女性が語学留学するのは、今ではそれほど珍しくないと思います。
私のまわりにも休職し、語学を学びに海外に飛び立った「アラサー女性」がいます。私も、4年前にスペイン語を身に付けるためマドリードへ留学。
語学学校では、本格的にフラメンコを学ぶためスペインに来た日本人女性が多く、改めて、女性の好奇心旺盛で、アクティブである事を実感しました。
そんなクラスメートをはじめスペイン人の友達もたくさん出来たスペイン留学。帰国してもう３年経ちますが帰って来ても毎年遊びに行っています。
スペインは深い文化と歴史があり、とても情熱的な国として知られています。
毎回訪れる度にその情熱を感じますが、まずマドリードのバラハス空港から外に出た時に圧倒されるのが、スペインの青空。日本も冬の時期は晴れた日の空は奇麗ですが、スペインの空は一段と青が深く、空がとても近く感じるのです。また雨が少なく晴れる確率が高い。きっとマドリードの人達の明るさはこの天気にあると勝手に思っています。今年の夏の終わりも"コモ・エスタ～？"とマドリードへ旅しました。
マドリードの中心から徒歩5分にある広場「プラサ・サンタアナ」に集まっているテラス・カフェやタパス・バールは相変わらずローカル＆観光客、ストリート・パフォーマーで賑やかでした。この近くにはあの名作「ドンキホーテ」の作者セルバンテスも住んでいたらしく、周辺は古いマドリードとモダンなマドリードが混じり合ってとてもお洒落です。
広場の一面にはマドリードで最も古い劇場「テアトロ・エスパニョール」があり反対面には数年前に改装されオープンした「Me Madrid Reina Victoria」ホテルが。昔ながらの外装にインテリアはシック&＆モダン。屋上ペントハウスにはテラス・バーもありDJによるラウンジ・ミュージックを楽しみながらサンタアナ広場を一望できます。暖かい季節に是非行きたいナイト・スポットです。

マドリードにはタパス料理店は星の数ほどあります。どのお店に入ろうか、確かに迷ってしまいます。でも多くある中、私のお気に入りはチュエカのエリアにある「エル・ボカイート」。スパニッシュ・タイルの壁にハモンのレッグが天井からぶら下がる 創業40年のこのタパス料理店 。夜はバーカウンターの前に立ちながらハモンやコロッケ、パタタス・ブラバスなどつまみながらワイワイ喋りまくる若いローカルが多い。定番なタパスがメインのお店でどれも美味しいです。ローカルに愛されるとてもカジュアルなお店なのでスタッフの気を引くのも一つのチャレンジです。オーダーする時は恥ずかしがらず声を高めにあげる様に！
もう一つチュエカのエリアにある「ラ・バルデムシーア」もお勧めのタパス・レストランです。ここは今年のアカデミー賞主演男優賞を受賞したスペインの俳優ハビエル・バルデムの家族によるレストランで、毎晩混んでいます。祖父母の代から俳優と言う芸能一家のバルデム・ファミリー。壁には記念写真や映画のシーンの写真などが多く飾られています。落ち着いたお洒落なアンビアンスが漂い、ハビエル・バルデム出演作の名前が付けられたオリジナル・メニューもあります。タパスももちろん、ワインのセレクションもグッドです。

プラド、ソフィア・レイナ、ティーソンと世界的有名な美術館もマドリードの魅力の一つです。一日で３つ回る人もいますが、どれも大きく作品も多いので急がずゆっくり楽しむのをお勧めします。そして街には数々の小さなミュージアムやギャラリーがあるので気が向いたら是非立ち寄ってみて下さい。最近オープンしたばかりなのは建物自体がアート作品になっている「カイシャ・フォルム」。（東京のプラダ・ビルでも知られるスイスの建築会社Herzog & de Meuronによるデザイン）現代アートの展示スペースには定期的に展示会を行っているそうです。

東京と同じく2012年のオリンピック開催地の候補にあがっているマドリード。都市開発が進みこれからもいろんな表情を見せてくれると思います。来年はどうなっているのか、気になります。

Going back to being a student in your thirties isn’t all that uncommon these days. I know a few women who have put their careers on hold to study abroad. I being one of those “matured” students chose Madrid to study the language and culture. Interestingly, the Japanese students I met in Madrid were mostly women who relocated to Madrid to hone their Flamenco dancing skills. It made me think how motivated and courageous many women are these days. Needless to say the time I spent in Madrid was wonderful. I’ve gained a new language and many new friends, some I will know for a very long time. It’s been 3 years since I’ve returned to Japan but I still make an effort to travel back to Madrid every year.
A country of passion and deep culture, I am still learning about its vitality and never tire of the beautiful weather. As the saying goes, “The rain in Spain only falls mainly on the plain ”. The moment I step out of Barajas Airport I am overwhelmed by the bright sunshine and clear blue sky of Madrid, truly amazing. I am convinced the weather has something to do with the energy of the Madrilenos. I made a trip this summer to catch up with friends and take in the Madrid sun.
Plaza Santa Ana, where I often took my “homework” was still as vibrant as ever with locals and tourists filling the terraces and street performers doing their thing. The area is a mix of old Madrid and the new with stylish boutique hotels and bars popping up here and there. Cervantes who’s book Don Quixote I will most likely never be able to read in Spanish used to live close by and the oldest theater in Madrid Teatro Espanol still stands with classic Spanish plays being held regularly.
The refurbished Reina Victoria Hotel has reopened as Me Madrid Reina Victoria Hotel. A stylish chic hotel with a penthouse bar. Enjoying the view while sipping on a mojito and listening to the DJ’s lounge music, an ideal way to spend a summer night in Madrid.

Tapas restaurants are pretty much everywhere, the choices are endless. I also have yet to learn of the great ones but I could recommend the following. In Chueca, there is El Bocaito on Calle Libertad. A casual tapas bar with walls decorated with Spanish tiles and legs of jamon hanging from the ceiling. Traditional tapa dishes like Croquetas, Patatas Bravas, slice of delicious Jamon are only just a start. There is a restaurant in the back but it’s exciting to hang out in the bar area and mingle with the crowd while picking at tapas. Staff are friendly but can to get their attention when the crowd bustle in can be a challenge so don’t be shy to speak up.
Another of my favorite tapas restaurant is La Bardemcilla on Calle Augusto Figueroa. Owned by Academy Award actorJavier Bardem and his cinematic family, photos of the family and cinematic scenes decorate the walls to create a stylish yet warm atmosphere. A nice wine selection and a raciones with names of Bardem films are unique.

Visiting museums is a must when in Madrid. Museo del Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia are the big three museums located in walking distance of each other. Some do all three in a day but I would recommend taking it slow, enjoy each museum's unique style and collection. There are other facilities and galleries throughout the city so picking up the Guia del Ocio (1 Euro) or the free paper In Madrid (in English) to find out the latest exhibitions is a good idea. The brand new Caixa Forum building designed by renowned Swiss architect firm Herzog & de Meuron is art in itself with a vertical garden and gravity defying architecture. Contemporary art exhibits are held regularly and entrance is free.

Madrid, along with Tokyo, is up for to host the 2012 Olympic Games, therefore the city is going through a massive reconstruction. It’s exciting to see how the city will look in the years to come.

若い頃からずっと憧れていたヨーロッパ。始めて行ったのは1996年の春、「花の都」パリでした。
80年代からポップ・シーンをリードするジョージ・マイケルが当時6年ぶりにソロ・アルバムをリリースしたのを記念して世界のファンやメデイアを招待した大規模なパーティー・イベントがパリで行われ、ラッキーな事に私も招待されました。当時はまだラジオDJとしてのキャリアーは浅くインタビューするまでは行きませんでしたが、しっかりとジョージ様と握手する事に成功。(緊張して握手に力が入り過ぎたかもしれませんが。。) そしてこのパーティーが開催されたのはパリのヴァンドーム広場にある人気デザイン・ホテル「ホテル・コスト」でした。オープンしてから注目のホテル、ここのラウンジとレストランをイメージしたミックスのコンピレーションCDも世界中で高く評価されています。
先日「ホテル・コスト」オフィシャルCD11枚目もリリースされました。イタリアン風のコートヤードにナポリオン時代流のインテリア、そこに輝くセレブやファンが集まっての賑やかなパーティー、想像以上に豪華でした。この時は4日ほど滞在し、フリーの時間はセーヌ川沿いやサンジェルマン・デ・プレ、シャンゼリゼ通りなど特に目的もなくパリの街を歩きました。ルーブル美術館の大きさに圧倒され、モナ・リサの美しさに感動したのも思い出します。歴史が生きる街、美しい街のパリに一目惚れでした。

また、ちょうどカンヌ国際映画祭が開催される前だったこともあり、シャンゼリゼ通りをプラプラするスティーブン・スピルバーグ監督を見かけたり、ルーブル美術館のカフェ「カフェ・マリ」でミュージシャンのトレイシー・チャップマンが友達とお茶しているのを目撃したり、パリ初体験としては豪華すぎるほどのハプニング続きでした。一生の思い出ですね。
あれから12年が経ち、その間パリには２回旅しています。パリに住む友達も増え、パリジェンヌ達の独特なリズムに慣れて来た気がします。そのおかげ最初とは違うまた新たなパリを見つける事も出来ました。世界には“一度行ってみたい街”はありますが、パリは何度も行きたい、いつ行っても素敵な発見がある街だと思います。
最後にパリを訪れたのは昨年7月。数年前に知り合ったフランス人の友人に、パリジェンヌに愛されるビストロや老舗レストランを案内してもらいました。中には6区にあるビストロ「シェ・デュモネ・ジョセフィーヌ」。デュモネ家3代に渡る古典的な老舗ビストロ。料理もフランスの伝統家庭料理がメインで牛肉を長時間赤ワインに煮込んだブッフ・ブルギニョンは口の中で蕩けます。シェフもスタッフもとてもチャーミングで何時間もいられるお店です。デザートには一人で食べきれないほど大きくて美味しいミルフィーユがおススメです。

| 6区からセーヌ川を渡った10区にある高級ビストロ「ラミ・ルイ」。多くあるパリのビストロの中でも最も尊敬される老舗ビストロと言われ、常に満席。2週間前に電話しないと予約が取れないとか。
そしてパリの夜景を一望出来るレストラン「ジョージ」。ポンピドゥー・センターの屋上にあるトレンディーなレストラン。ポンピドゥー・センターらしくモダンなデザインにお洒落な客層です。エレベーターでもあがれるそうですが、せっかくなので私はゆっくりポンピドゥー・センターのエスカレーター使ってあがりました。
フレンチ・アジアン・キュイジーヌを頂きながら、好きなカクテルを片手に、キラキラ輝くパリの夜景を目一杯に吸い込みました。気分はとてもセクシーでした。ここに行くなら、是非ドレス・アップして行ってほしいです！ |

My very first trip to the City of Lights was 12 years ago, in the Spring of '96.
I was invited to join a promotional party to celebrate George Michael's new solo album at the trendy Hotel Costes. You may know the lounge music CD series of the same name . It's inspired by the music played in the lounge and restaurant of the hotel, mixed by renowned DJ Stephane Pompougnac. (vol. 11 was recently released).

I look back now and remember being overwhelmed by the glitz and glamour of the former Wham! icon and his posse of the Paris A-list. But indeed, it was an exciting way to see the city I always dreamt of visiting. (I did shake his hand…perhaps just a little too hard) I also remember passing Steven Spielberg on Avenue des Champs-Élysées and seeing Tracy Chapman at Café Marly at the Louvre. Later I found out that the Cannes International Film Festival was starting the following week so I assume Paris is full of celebrities during that time.
All name droppings aside, I've been to Paris twice since then and every visit I feel a little closer to the city and it's people. There are cities to visit once and there are cities to visit over and over again. Paris is, I'm sure anyone will agree, the latter type of city with it’s mystical magic and astounding beauty.
The last time was a little over a year ago. A Parisian I met a few years ago gave me a lovely guide to his favorite restaurants. Impressive bistros such as Chez Dumonet Josephine located in the 6th arrondissement. A traditional French bistro that has been a Paris favorite since the 1930's. Famous for the Boeuf Bourgogne that melts in your mouth and the millefeuille that melts the heart!

| Another Parisian favorite is L'ami Louis located in the 10th arrondissement. Known as one of the best and most expensive bistros in Paris, very romantic atmosphere with old fashion d?cor and the waiters dressed in traditional attire. Grilled veal kidneys, roasted suckling lamb, thick gravey, confit of duckling, and foie gras are some of the dishes served here and a spectacular wine list.
To enjoy the night view of Paris go to Georges on the rooftop of the Pompidou Center. It's a restaurant to be seen and the French Asian cuisine goes well with the selections of cocktails available here.

Woo, I am getting that funny feeling travel again! I can't wait for my next adventure in the City of Lights.

初めまして！AAstyleの新ブログを担当することになりました、南美布です。旅好きな皆さんに様々な海外＆国内の体験話をお届け出来る事を楽しみにしています。よろしくお願いします。
父親の仕事の関係で小、中学校はニューヨーク州のロング・アイランドで過ごしたせいか、若い頃から異国文化に興味を持っていました。今まで様々な国へ旅をしてきて思うのは、旅先のことを知るのはもちろん、さらに改めて自分の国のことも見つめ直すようになれる。そして自分自身をもっと知る事も出来る。毎回旅行から帰ってくると、また少し成長したと言うか、何か特別な物を得た気がします。だから私は旅が好きです。まだまだ行きたい所は沢山ありますが、中には何回も訪れたい場所もあります。私にとってニューヨークはそんな場所です。
今は観光客として行っていますが、毎回刺激を受けます。SOHOからNOHO、グレニッチ・ビレッジやフィフス・アベニュー、チャイナタウンと、どのエリアも活気があって個性がある。最後に訪れたのは2005年の11月でちょうど感謝祭の時期でした。レストランでは七面鳥、マッシュ・ポテト、クランベリー・ソースにカボチャのパイと言う豪華な感謝祭ディナーを特別に用意してくれました。冷たい風の吹くNYCでしたが、心はポカポカと温まりました。次回はセントラル・パーク内にあるレストラン「タバーン・オン・ザ・グリーン」や「ボートハウス」の感謝際ディナーもトライしてみたい！大好きな街ニューヨークが私を呼んでいます。
Greetings AAstyle readers! What a journey this is going to be writing about one my favorite things, traveling!
I don't remember exactly when I caught the "travel bug" but I caught it pretty early in my youth. Lucky to live abroad due to my father's job transfer when I was about 6 years old, traveling has always been a part of my life. As I grow older, I find it more and more exciting to travel to other countries and meet people of different cultures. It's not just fun and exhilarating to discover new places and meet new people but it's also a wonderful way to appreciate my origins and the city I live in.
There are always cities I long to go back to and New York is one of them. No other city gives off energy like the Big Apple. From Soho to Noho, Greenwich Village (my favorite) to Upper West and Fifth Avenue, each area has character and it's original flare.
My last visit was 3 years ago when I spent Thanksgiving there with several of my friends. Thick slices of turkey and sweet potato, bread stuffing and pumpkin pie…it let me forget all about the cold November wind. Next time, it will be Thanksgiving dinner at the Tavern or the Boathouse in Central Park or a cozy brasserie in the Village? ... I can go on and on! |
