What can the special reservations desk help me with?
AAdvantage® Platinum members have access to a dedicated Service Desk, where representatives are happy to provide personal service across a wide range of areas. Representatives can assist you with booking reservations, upgrade purchases and requests, making award reservations, AAdvantage account inquiries and more.
Need to call the AAdvantage Platinum Service Desk? Just dial the number on the back of your membership card: 1-800-843-3000. You can also access this desk from many locations around the globe; please visit www.usa.att.com/traveler for detailed instructions (long distance charges may apply).
Are award processing charges waived for me?
Absolutely. We will automatically waive the award processing charges when you use AAdvantage miles from your account to book an award reservation for travel within 21 days of departure.
As a Platinum member, do I earn mileage bonuses on every flight? Do those bonus miles help me to re-qualify for elite status?
AAdvantage Platinum members receive a 100% mileage bonus on the base or guaranteed minimum miles for eligible flights on American Airlines, American Eagle, American Connection®, select oneworld® airline partners and Alaska Airlines. You could almost think of it as a discount on your award travel – the extra 100% bonus basically allows you to redeem your miles for an AAnytime® award at the MileSAAver® price. For details, please visit www.aa.com/elitestatusbonus.
Although the elite status bonus miles you receive do not count toward elite status qualification, they will help you get closer to your next award trip.
Do I receive a minimum mileage guarantee on flights less than 500 miles?
Yes, as an elite status member, you will earn a minimum of 500 AAdvantage base miles for every eligible flight. Of course, some exceptions apply. In some instances the minimum mileage amount earned may be less than 500 miles for travel on oneworld member airlines and AAdvantage participating airlines. For details, visit our Minimum Mileage Guarantee page.
How do I re-qualify for next year?
To re-qualify for AAdvantage Platinum status, simply fly 60 elite-qualifying segments or earn 50,000 qualifying miles or points during the calendar year (January - December).
How are elite qualifying miles and segments calculated?
Elite qualifying miles and segments are accumulated based on the actual miles you earn or segments flown on eligible purchased tickets for travel on American Airlines, American Eagle, American Connection, Alaska Airlines (including Horizon Air), oneworld member airlines and/or American Airlines codeshare flights (when the ticket shows an American Airlines coded flight number).
You will need to fly at least four segments on American Airlines, American Eagle or American Connection within the calendar year to qualify for elite status. Qualifying miles include the minimum mileage guarantee, where applicable, but they do not include class-of-service bonus miles, other participant miles or any other AAdvantage bonus miles.
How are elite qualifying points calculated?
Points are calculated using a combination of earned miles and the booking class purchased. The chart below outlines how points are calculated for flights on American Airlines, American Eagle, American Connection and/or American Airlines codeshare flights:
Qualifying Points per Mile Earned on
American Airlines, American Eagle and
the American Connection
|Fare Purchased||Booking Class||Points Per Qualifying
|First Class||A, F, P||1.50
|Business Class||D, I, J,R||1.50
|Full-Fare Economy Class
|Discount Economy Class||H, K, M, L, W, V||1.00
|Deep Discount Economy Class
||G, Q, N, O, S||0.50
* In some cases, AA codeshare flights booked in 'W' (marketed by AA and operated by other airlines), represent travel in a Premium Economy cabin or fare and will, therefore, earn 1.50 points per qualifying mile earned.
Excludes Internet fares noted as non-mileage earning.
Where can I learn more about qualifying for elite status when flying on other airlines?
For a complete list of eligible fare classes and the equivalent elite points earned on oneworld member airlines and AAdvantage participating carriers, view the following: Alaska Airlines, airberlin, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7.
What is the difference between the elite qualification period and the elite membership year?
Your elite qualifying activity (points, miles and segments) from January 1 to December 31 is used to determine your AAdvantage membership level.
You begin receiving elite benefits immediately upon qualification, and as long as you meet the standard qualification requirements, your benefits will last through the end of the next membership year, which runs as follows:
The membership year lasts from March 1 through the final day of February of the following year.
Since you begin receiving elite benefits immediately upon qualification, the beginning of your membership year is the day you qualify for your elite level. Then, on March 1, every elite member's year starts over.
