We also want to remind customers traveling to and from Santo Domingo (SDQ) that certain items are not allowed on any AA/AE flights. Travel with
undeclared dangerous goods is prohibited and dangerous goods may not be checked or carried on board. Examples of dangerous goods
include used gasoline powered devices such as portable generators, chain saws, concrete cutters, etc. If these gasoline powered
devices are new, never used, in original, unopened packaging and in good condition then they may be checked. All other checked
and carry on baggage policies also apply.
American Airlines Supports Disaster Relief Efforts
If you would like to join the employees of American Airlines and the American Red Cross in supporting the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, American will reward your generosity with an AAdvantage bonus mile offer.
Caribbean Bag Limitations
In an effort to ensure all customers' bags and relief effort items are accommodated on their scheduled flight, it is necessary to impose a bag limitation, on all excess, oversize, and overweight baggage to:
- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. (POP)
- Santiago, Dominican Republic. (STI)
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. (SDQ)
- Port au Prince, Haiti (PAP) when service resumes
Customers traveling to these destinations, are allowed:
- Two checked bags - 62 in/157 cm each (length + width + height) weighing no more than 50 lbs/23 kgs each
- One carry-on bag - 45 in/114 cm (length + width + height) weighing no more than 40 lbs/18 kgs
- Each passenger may check up to three (3) additional pieces of baggage. Excess baggage charges of $100 per bag will apply
- Oversized (63 - 115 in/160 - 292 cm) and overweight bags (51 lbs - 100 lbs / 23 - 45 kgs) will be permitted. Oversize and/or overweight charges will apply

New International Security Measures
Carry-On Baggage Policy To The U.S.
From Europe To The U.S.
Effective immediately, and until further notice, customers traveling on American Airlines from Europe will be limited to one carry-on item. The carry-on item must fit in an overhead compartment or under the seat and cannot exceed 45 dimensional inches/114 cm (length + width + height) and weigh no more than 40 lbs/18 kgs. This limit will apply to customers originating on American Airlines and customers originating on other carriers connecting to American Airlines for flights to the U.S. from Europe.
Exemptions: The normal carry-on allowance of one bag plus one personal item still applies for:
- American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® or AAdvantage Gold® members
- oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members
- Customers traveling in First Class
- Customers traveling in Business Class
- Customers traveling with PriorityAAccess
- AAirpass members
Checked bag charges will not apply for items that customers intended to carry on which are now restricted and must be checked. For this waiver to apply, the additional item being checked must be within the carry-on bag size limits of 45 dimensional inches/114 cm (length + width + height) and weigh no more than 40 lbs/18 kgs.
This restriction applies on all American Airlines flights to the United States from Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Paris, Rome, and Zurich.
From Canada To The U.S.
Effective until further notice, one small carry-on bag is permitted for airline passengers who are travelling to the United States. This carry-on bag must not exceed 22x16x9 inches / 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm and weigh no more than 40 lbs/18 kgs. The carry-on bag must fit into an airport's carry-on baggage sizer.
Items such as reading material, personal electronics, and medications must be stored in the passenger's carry-on bag, and packed prior to the security check.

Check In Early For Travel From Canada To The U.S.
All passengers should plan to arrive at the airport at least three (3) hours in advance of their flight departure to allow extra time for check-in and the boarding process. As always, be sure to check your flight status information before you head to the airport.

Changes To Checked Bag Charges Effective February 1, 2010
Domestic Travel

Guidelines For Lithium Batteries
As of January 1, 2008, travelers may no longer pack spare lithium batteries of any kind in checked baggage. Passengers wishing to carry spare lithium batteries for devices such as laptops, cell phones and cameras are now required to pack them in their carry-on baggage with the terminals covered/insulated. Travelers may check bags that contain batteries, as long as they are installed in electronic devices.

circumstances described below. Please check

Arrival Times page to allow enough time to arrive at the airport
before your departure.
- Delhi, India (DEL) - Check in time must be 3.5 hours in advance of departure time due to airport congestion and security checks.
- Fort Lauderdale (FLL) - Please arrive at least 90 minutes early when departing Fort Lauderdale due to long security lines.
- Los Angeles, CA (LAX) - due to taxi way repairs at LAX, some AA aircraft will be arriving and departing from a remote area. Passengers will be bused between the aircraft and the terminal.
- New York Kennedy (JFK) - Please allow extra time when departing New York Kennedy due to ongoing terminal construction.
- Orange County, CA (SNA) -Parking is limited at Orange County airport. Please arrive early in order to find a parking space.
- Orlando, FL (MCO) - Baggage for confirmed flights may only be accepted up to four hours prior to confirmed departure.
- San Antonio, TX (SAT) - Please allow two hours for check in due to construction which is expected to last through 2010.
- San Francisco, CA (SFO) - Please allow extra time for rental car returns due to their remote location.
- San Jose, CA (SJC) - Please allow additional time due to major construction in front of Terminal A. The construction will affect
roadway lanes and pedestrian access through 2010.
- Santa Barbara, CA (SBA) - Due to construction of the new terminal, unforeseen service interruptions may occur.
- Venezuela (CCS, MAR) - The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is unable to determine whether Venezuelan airports that serve as the last point of departure for non-stop flights to the United States, maintain and carry out effective aviation security measures in accordance with the standards and appropriate recommended practices established by the International Civil Aviation Organization /ICAO/.
- Washington D.C. Dulles (IAD) - Please arrive at least one hour early when departing Washington Dulles due to mid-field terminal departures.
