Current travel advisories
Some government and public health advisories may affect travel requirements or entry restrictions.
New travel requirement for flights to the U.S.
Beginning November 3, 2026, all travelers on international flights to or connecting through the U.S. must complete an attestation. Additional requirements may apply if you've recently been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan or Uganda.
To help reduce the risk of Ebola entering the United States (U.S.), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has temporary travel requirements in place for international flights to the U.S.
Attestation requirement
Effective for flights departing at or after 11:59 p.m. EST on November 3, 2026, all travelers boarding an international flight to or connecting through the U.S. must complete and sign an attestation (statement) confirming they have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during the 21 days before their flight leaves for the U.S.
The attestation may be completed when checking in on aa.com, in the American app or at the airport. The form can also be downloaded as a PDF and printed before arriving at the airport.

Travel from the DRC
All travelers who have been in the DRC within 21 days before departure will not be allowed to board flights to the U.S. and should plan to remain outside the U.S. for at least 21 days after they leave the DRC. This includes travelers connecting through the DRC, even if they do not leave the airplane.
Travel from South Sudan or Uganda
Non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. nationals, including U.S. lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), who have been in South Sudan or Uganda within 21 days before departure will not be allowed to enter the U.S. and should remain outside the U.S. for at least 21 days after they leave South Sudan or Uganda.
U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who have been in South Sudan or Uganda, but not the DRC, within 21 days before arrival in the U.S. must enter through designated U.S. airports for public health screening. These requirements also apply to travelers connecting through South Sudan or Uganda, even if they do not leave the airplane.
